PortageLive: Delivering Machine Translation Technology via Virtualization
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe and report initial results on using virtual machines as a vehicle to deploy machine translation technology to the marketplace. Virtual machines can bridge the gap between the computing infrastructure typically used in research environments and commodity PCs typical of office environments. A key component is the compact representation of the underlying databases and models in tightly packed tries, which allows us to run state-ofthe art translation technology on regular office PCs.

Software Techniques for Avoiding Hardware Virtualization Exits
On modern processors, hardware-assisted virtualization outperforms binary translation for most workloads. But hardware virtualization has a potential problem: virtualization exits are expensive. While hardware virtualization executes guest instructions at native speed, guest/VMM transitions can sap performance. Hardware designers attacked this problem both by reducing guest/VMM transition costs...
متن کاملMagiXen: Combining Binary Translation and Virtualization
Virtualization is emerging as an important technology in future systems, providing an extra layer of abstraction between the hardware and operating system. Previous work on virtualization has focused on the partitioning, isolation, and encapsulation features of virtual machines and their use for different applications, but mainly in the context of a specific processor architecture. In this pape...
متن کاملVirtualization Basics: Understanding Techniques and Fundamentals
Virtualization is a fundamental part of cloud computing, especially in delivering Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Exploring different techniques and architectures of the virtualization helps us understand the basic knowledge of virtualization and the server consolidation in the cloud with x86 architecture. This paper describes virtualization technologies, architectures and optimizations reg...

To approach the ever growing complexity of modern malware, security applications increasingly leverage virtualization technology to perform Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI). VMI constitutes techniques that allow the observation, analysis, and control of guest Virtual Machines (VMs) from the outside. This lends VMI-based applications an omniscient character gaining a complete and untainted vi...
متن کاملAddress-Translation-Based Network Virtualization
Two network-virtualization architectures, namely, network segmentation and network paging, were investigated. They are analogical to two memory-virtualization architectures: segmentation and paging. Network paging, which is relatively new and is based on a type of network-address translation (NAT), is focused on. This architecture requires smaller packet size and has several more advantages ove...
