چکیده

Portfolio credit derivatives, such as basket credit default swaps (basket CDS), require for their pricing an estimation of the dependence structure of defaults, which is known to exhibit tail dependence as reflected in observed default contagion. A popular model with this property is the (Student’s) t copula; unfortunately there is no fast method to calibrate the degree of freedom parameter. In this paper, within the framework of Schönbucher’s copula-based trigger-variable model for basket CDS pricing, we propose instead to calibrate the full multivariate t distribution. We describe a version of the EM algorithm that provides very fast calibration speeds compared to the current copula-based alternatives. The algorithm generalizes easily to the more flexible skewed t distributions. To our knowledge, we are the first to use the skewed t distribution in this context. ∗Journal of Economic Literature Classification Codes: C16, G12.

Impact of Basel II Capital Accord on Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME): An Empirical Study on a Group of Export Oriented SMEs

The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between lending to Small and Medium-size Exporter Enterprises (E-SMEs) and the use of Basel II Capital Accord for the first time in the banking system of Iran. Results showed that 96.69 percent of small firms were in the very low risk category of credit portfolio. This proof explains a consistent and balanced relationship between risk- weigh...

The Current Models of Credit Portfolio Management: A Comparative Theoretical Analysis

The present paper aimed at studying the current models of credit portfolio management. There are currently three types of models which consider the risk of credit portfolio: the structural models (Moody's KMV model, and Credit- Metrics model), the intensity models (the actuarial models) and the econometric models (the Macro-factors model). The development of these three types of models is based...

Efficient risk/return frontiers for credit risk

FALL 2000 T he risk/return trade-off has been a central tenet of portfolio management since the seminal work of Markowitz [1952]. The basic premise, that higher (expected) returns can only be achieved at the expense of greater risk, leads naturally to the concept of an efficient frontier. The efficient frontier defines the maximum return that can be achieved for a given level of risk or, altern...

Investigating the Effect of Selected Sustainable Development Indicators on Credit Allocation: the Case of National Development Fund of Iran

Credit allocation through the usage of Portfolio optimization mainly seeks tomaximize return and minimize the risk of the portfolio; but there are other importantissues including sustainable development which is important for government/publicsectors. This paper presents a novel credit allocation approach based on portfoliooptimization and investigates the effects of selected indicators of sust...

Application of Fourier Inversion Methods to Credit Portfolio Models with Integrated Interest Rate and Credit Spread Risk

Most credit portfolio models currently used by the banking industry rely on Monte Carlo simulations for calculating the probability distribution of the future credit portfolio value, which can be quite computer time consuming. Adding market risk factors, such as stochastic interest rates or credit spreads, as additional ingredients of a credit portfolio model, the computational burden of full M...
