Circadian biology: Clocks for the real world
نویسندگان
چکیده
The circadian system of Neurospora crassa includes a molecular feedback loop that is entrainable by light. A recent study has shown that a second, elusive oscillator interacts with the feedback loop to drive output rhythms.

Circadian Clocks: Evolution in the Shadows
As scientists, we strive for highly controlled conditions. The real world, however, is noisy. Complex networks are a coping mechanism for an erratic environment.
متن کاملPeripheral clocks: keeping up with the master clock.
Circadian clocks influence most aspects of physiology and behavior, so perhaps it is not surprising that circadian oscillators exist in nearly all mammalian cells. These cells remain synchronized to the outside world in hierarchical fashion, with a "master clock" tissue in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus receiving light input from the retina and then conveying timing information...
متن کاملEffects of Lycium barbarum. polysaccharide on type 2 diabetes mellitus rats by regulating biological rhythms
Objective(s): Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with circadian disruption. Our previous experimental results have showed that dietary Lycium barbarum. polysaccharide (LBP-4a) exhibited hypoglycemic and improving insulin resistance (IR) activities. This study was to explore the mechanisms of LBP-4a for improving hyperglycemia and IR by regulating biological rhythms in T2DM rats. Mat...
متن کاملUsing light to tell the time of day: sensory coding in the mammalian circadian visual network
Circadian clocks are a near-ubiquitous feature of biology, allowing organisms to optimise their physiology to make the most efficient use of resources and adjust behaviour to maximise survival over the solar day. To fulfil this role, circadian clocks require information about time in the external world. This is most reliably obtained by measuring the pronounced changes in illumination associate...
متن کاملCircadian clocks
The biological world is not static: organisms inhabit environments which change predictably over the course of the day and night. There will therefore be selective advantage to any individuals able to anticipate these changes and attune their physiology and behaviour accordingly. Anticipation of daily cycles is conferred by endogenous timers, biological clocks with an intrinsic period of approx...
