چکیده

This paper is concerned with the maximum cut problem in parallel on cubic graphs. New theoretical results characterizing the cardinality of the cut are presented. These results make it possible to design a simple combinatorial O(log n) time parallel algorithm , running on a CRCW PRAM with O(n) processors. The approximation ratio achieved by the algorithm is 1: 3 and improves the best known parallel approximation ratio, i.e., 2, in the special class of cubic graphs. The algorithm also guarantees that the size of the returned cut is at least 9g?3 8g n, where g is the odd girth of the input graph. Experimental results round oo the paper, showing that the solutions obtained in practice are likely to be much better than the theoretical lower bound.

A Parallel Approximation Algorithm for the Max Cut Problem on Cubic Graphs

We deal with the maximum cut problem on cubic graphs and we present a simple O(log n) time parallel algorithm, running on a CRCW PRAM with O(n) processors. The approximation ratio of our algorithm is 1.3̄ and improves the best known parallel approximation ratio, i.e. 2, in the special case of cubic graphs.

Settling the Complexity of Local Max-Cut (Almost) Completely

We consider the problem of finding a local optimum for Max-Cut with FLIP-neighborhood, in which exactly one node changes the partition. Schäffer and Yannakakis (SICOMP, 1991) showed PLScompleteness of this problem on graphs with unbounded degree. On the other side, Poljak (SICOMP, 1995) showed that in cubic graphs every FLIP local search takes O(n) steps, where n is the number of nodes. Due to ...

Coherent Ising machine based on degenerate optical parametric oscillators

A degenerate optical parametric oscillator network is proposed to solve the NP-hard problem of finding a ground state of the Ising model. The underlying operating mechanism originates from the bistable output phase of each oscillator and the inherent preference of the network in selecting oscillation modes with the minimum photon decay rate. Computational experiments are performed on all instan...

Separate, Measure and Conquer: Faster Algorithms for Max 2-CSP and Counting Dominating Sets

We show a method resulting in the improvement of several polynomial-space, exponentialtime algorithms. An instance of the problem Max (r, 2)-CSP, or simply Max 2-CSP, is parametrized by the domain size r (often 2), the number of variables n (vertices in the constraint graph G), and the number of constraints m (edges in G). When G is cubic, and omitting sub-exponential terms here for clarity, we...

The robust vertex centdian location problem with interval vertex weights on general graphs

In this paper, the robust vertex centdian  location  problem with uncertain vertex weights on general graphs is studied. The used criterion to solve the problem is the min-max  regret criterion. This problem  is  investigated  with objective function contains $lambda$  and  a polynomial time algorithm for the problem is presented. It is shown that the vertex centdian problem on general graphs i...
