Integrated Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Receivers on Metals for Laser Generated Ultrasound
نویسندگان
چکیده
Thick (>50μm) piezoelectric ceramic films have been deposited directly onto metal substrates as integrated ultrasonic transducer (IUT) receivers to detect the laser generated ultrasound. The film fabrication is based on a sol-gel spray technique. In this investigation IUTs intrinsically acting as bulk longitudinal wave receivers use various mode conversion approaches and serve as longitudinal, shear, symmetric, anti-symmetric and shear horizontal plate wave receivers. Steel and aluminum having different sizes, shapes and thicknesses and coated with IUTs have been used for the study. Different laser generation conditions such as point and line sources of different sizes are also applied to investigate the capabilities of IUT receivers. Ultrasonic measurements up to 400°C of metal substrates with planar and curved surfaces using laser generated and IUT received ultrasound are demonstrated.

متن کاملUltrasonic Velocity Measurements in Liquid Metals Using Acoustic Wave Guides
The ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV) is an innovative and non-invasive method to determine the velocity in liquid flows. Main advantages are the ability to investigate flows of opaque liquids and to deliver complete velocity profiles in real-time [1,2]. Therefore, the intention to apply this measuring technique to liquid metal flows is obvious with respect to the situation that until today ...
متن کاملIn-Situ Monitoring of Microstructure during Thermomechanical Simulations using Laser-Ultrasonics
Abstract Ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements are powerful tools to infer information about the microstructure and properties of metals and their alloys. To begin, elastic constants can be measured with precision as high as one part in 10. At this level of precision, changes in elastic constants caused by texture, phase transformations, and various internal friction phenomena can be...

متن کاملDetermination of the material properties of polymers using laser-generated broadband ultrasound
In the non-destructive determination of material properties, the utilization of ultrasound has proven to be a viable tool. In the presented paper, a laser is used to create broadband acoustic waves in plate-shaped specimens by applying the photoacoustic effect. The waves are detected using a purpose-built ultrasonic transducer that is based on piezoceramics instead of the commonly used piezoele...
