چکیده

BACKGROUND/AIM To evaluate the predictive role of the circulating levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in gastric cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study is a case-control study. We measured serum VEGF levels of 30 patients aged between 34 and 83 years with gastric cancer and 30 patients without malignant pathology, operated on for benign pathologies, with ages ranging from 18 to 69. RESULTS Serum levels of VEGF were correlated with the tumor type classification (signet cell adenocarcinoma) and the presence of adjacent tissue invasion. There was also a positive correlation between serum VEGF and carcinoembryonic antigen levels. CONCLUSION In gastric cancer patients, serum VEGF levels may provide additional prognostic information for preoperative evaluation of invasion and tumor type.

The Clinicopathological Significance of Tissue Levels of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Gastric Cancer

BACKGROUND/AIMS Hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) is a mediator of tumor progression. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the most potent angiogenic factor known to be induced by HIF-1alpha. We investigated the clinicopathological significance of HIF-1alpha and VEGF levels in biopsied gastric cancer tissue. METHODS Endoscopic biopsy specimens from 67 patients with gastric ...

Prognostic significance of serum vascular endothelial growth factor per platelet count in gastric cancer patients.

e22031 Background: Recent studies have shown that VEGF expression not in tissues but in serum sample is correlated with tumor vascularity, and high serum VEGF levels could predict poor prognosis in cancer patients. However there are limited data regarding the clinical and prognostic significance of serum VEGF levels per platelet count in advanced gastric cancer. In this study, we conducted a st...

Quantitation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Interleukin-6 in Different Stages of Breast Cancer

Background: Determination of the impact of angiogenesis on tumor development and progression is essential. This study aimed to determine the serum levels of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in breast carcinoma, and to correlate them with tumor size, lymph node involvement, and cancer stage. Methods: Under aseptic precautions 5 ml of venous blood was collecte...

Predictive Significance of Serum Level of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Gastric Cancer Patients

The study aims to evaluate serum VEGF expression in gastric cancer patients and investigate its relationship with clinicopathological parameters. We also examined the serum VEGF levels in GC patients having received surgery or chemotherapy treatment to assess its predictive and prognostic value as a biomarker. We enrolled 154 GC patients having not received neoadjuvant treatment and 100 healthy...
