Being (un)moved by mental time travel.

چکیده
Mental imagery of events in the past or future, and of unpleasant or pleasant events, has been found to lead to spontaneous backward/forward bodily motions. Both time and emotion are represented along a spatial continuum, and activation of these representations seems to be simulated in spontaneous changes in body posture. We performed a conceptual replication and extension of an earlier study by Miles, Nind, and Macrae (2010) who reported clear postural effects when thinking of the past and the future. We additionally tested whether changes in posture appear when thinking of an emotional event. Volunteers engaged in mental imagery, involving combinations of time intervals and emotions. We simultaneously recorded center-of-pressure (COP) changes. Results revealed neither an effect of imagery of time nor of emotion on body posture. We conclude that embodied effects of imagery of abstract items on body posture may be less robust than suggested by previous literature.

Finding the nearest facility for travel and waiting time in a transport network
One of user's queries from navigation service is to find the nearest facility in terms of time. The facility that is being questioned by the user as a destination may have a queuing service system (e.g. bank), which means that the cost function of the shortest path includes the waiting time at the destination as well as the travel time. This research conducts in the zone 1 of Mashhad with Bank ...

متن کاملBilateral hippocampal lesion and a selective impairment of the ability for mental time travel.
Mental time travel allows individuals to mentally project themselves backwards and forwards in subjective time. This case report describes a young woman suddenly rendered amnesic as a result of bilateral hippocampal damage following an epileptic seizure and brain anoxia. Her neuropsychological profile was characterized by a high-average general level of cognitive functioning, selective deficit ...
متن کاملThe Time Machine in Our Mind
This article provides the first comprehensive conceptual account for the imagistic mental machinery that allows us to travel through time--for the time machine in our mind. It is argued that language reveals this imagistic machine and how we use it. Findings from a range of cognitive fields are theoretically unified and a recent proposal about spatialized mental time travel is elaborated on. Th...
متن کاملMental Time Travel: Can Animals Recall the Past and Plan for the Future?
In an influential paper that was published in 1997, Suddendorf and Corballis argued that we humans are unique among the animal kingdom in being able to mentally dissociate ourselves from the present. To do so, we travel backwards and forwards in themind’s eye to remember and reexperience specific events that happened in the past (episodic memory) and to anticipate and preexperience future scena...
