چکیده
Given a set D = {d1, d2, . . .} of positive integers, one defines a distance graph with the set of integers Z as the vertex set and xy an edge iff |x−y| ∈ D. We approach distance graphs by using p-adic methods. This allows us to give general bounds on the chromatic number that depend on the divisibility properties of the numbers di. Furthermore, the chromatic number is determined for large classes of distance graphs.

The Collatz conjecture and De Bruijn graphs
We study variants of the well-known Collatz graph, by considering the action of the 3n+ 1 function on congruence classes. For moduli equal to powers of 2, these graphs are shown to be isomorphic to binary De Bruijn graphs. Unlike the Collatz graph, these graphs are very structured, and have several interesting properties. We then look at a natural generalization of these finite graphs to the 2-...

Let p be a fixed prime number. Throughout this paper, the symbols Z, Zp, Qp, and Cp denote the ring of rational integers, the ring of p-adic rational integers, the field of p-adic rational numbers, and the completion of algebraic closure of Qp, respectively. Let N be the set of natural numbers and Z N ∪ {0}. The p-adic absolute value in Cp is normalized in such a way that |p|p 1/p see 1–17 . Fo...

متن کاملan 2 00 3 A brief introduction to p - adic numbers Stephen
In this short survey we look at a few basic features of p-adic numbers, somewhat with the point of view of a classical analyst. In particular, with p-adic numbers one has arithmetic operations and a norm, just as for real or complex numbers. Let Z denote the integers, Q denote the rational numbers, R denote the real numbers, and C denote the complex numbers. Also let | · | denote the usual abso...
