Biological microsystem for measuring uric acid in biological fluids

چکیده
This paper describes a biological microsystem (bio-system) for measuring uric acid concentration in serum, plasma or urine. Its operation is based on optical absorption in a well-defined part of the visible spectrum. The bio-system is composed by two dies: one is fabricated in polystyrene and contains the microchannels and the other is fabricated in a CMOS standard process and contains the photodetector and readout electronics. The uric acid concentration is measured by using a mixture of 14 l of infinityTM uric acid reagent with 0.25 l of sample. The achieved sensitivity is 0.33 mg/dl (±0.6% of the value in urine of a healthy person), with a 1 mm lightpath. Using an optical absorption method, a maximum peak at wavelength λ = 494 nm, is detected. This bio-system can be included in the group of low-cost disposable devices for biological fluids analysis. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Sub-ppm determination of uric acid using a sensitive kinetic-catalytic reaction system
A sensitive and selective kinetic-spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of trace amounts of uric acid. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of uric acid on the oxidation of Janus Green by bromate in the presence of sulfuric acid. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance at 518 nm using the fixed-time method. Under optimum exper...
متن کاملA novel chemical method for measuring ketone bodies in subclinical ketosis
Backgrounds: Subclinical ketosis can cause greater economic loss due to a lack of clinical symptoms. Objectives: The present study was aimed to design a chemical method for measuring serum ketone bodies in the affected subclinical cows. Methods: Acetoacetate concentrations were measured using a nitroprusside reaction and b-hydroxy butyric acid (BHBA) which was oxidized to acetoacetate using nan...
متن کاملMicromethod for the determination of uric acid in biological fluids.
A micro procedure for estimating uric acid in body fluids, based on the carbonate method, is described. Interferences are elucidated. The stoichiometry of the reaction is carefully worked out. Reliability of the method is established by comparison with two other methods, by recovery experiments, and by replicate analyses.
متن کاملThe determination of uric acid in biological materials.
Uric acid is commonly determined in biological fluids by measuring the blue colour produced by its reaction with reagents containing phosphotungstic or arsenotungstic acids under conditions which minimize interference by other reducing substances (Folin & Denis, 1912; Folin, 1933, 1934; Benedict, 1912, 1922; Brown, 1945; Bidmead, 1951). Recovery of uric acid added to blood has never been comple...
متن کاملPapers Method for the measurement of antioxidant activity in human fluids
Aim—To develop a new, simple, and cheap method for estimating antioxidant activity in human fluids. Methods—The assay measured the capacity of the biological fluids to inhibit the production of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) from sodium benzoate under the influence of the free oxygen radicals derived from Fenton’s reaction. A solution of 1 mmol/litre uric acid was used as stand...
