چکیده

The Hamiltonian of the spinless relativistic Coulomb problem combines the standard Coulomb interaction potential with the square-root operator of relativistic kinematics. This Hamiltonian is known to be bounded from below up to some well-defined critical coupling constant. At this critical coupling constant, however, the differences between all analytically obtainable upper bounds on the corresponding energy eigenvalues and their numerically determined (approximate) values take their maxima. In view of this, an analytical derivation of (not so bad) upper bounds on the lowest-lying energy levels at the critical coupling constant is presented. PACS: 03.65.Pm; 03.65.Ge; 11.10.St; 12.39.Pn

The One-dimensional Spinless Relativistic Coulomb Problem

Motivated by a recent analysis which presents explicitly the general solution, we consider the eigenvalue problem of the spinless Salpeter equation with a (“hard-core amended”) Coulomb interaction potential in one dimension. We prove the existence of a critical coupling constant (which contradicts the assertions of the previous analysis) and give analytic upper bounds on the energy eigenvalues....

Spinless Salpeter Equation: Analytic Results

The spinless Salpeter equation is the combination of relativistic kinematics with some static interaction potential. The nonlocal nature of the Hamiltonian resulting from this approximation renders difficult to obtain rigorous analytic statements on resulting solutions. In view of this unsatisfactory state of affairs, we calculate analytic upper bounds on the involved energy levels, and, for th...

Quantum critical transport in clean graphene

We describe electrical transport in ideal single-layer graphene at zero applied bias. There is a crossover from collisionless transport at frequencies larger than kBT/! (T is the temperature) to collision-dominated transport at lower frequencies. The d.c. conductivity is computed by the solution of a quantum Boltzmann equation. Due to a logarithmic singularity in the collinear scattering amplit...

Next-to-next-to-leading order vacuum polarization function of heavy quark near threshold and sum rules for b ¯ b system. Abstract A correlator of the vector current of a heavy quark is computed analytically near threshold in the next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative and relativistic expansion that includes α 2 s , α s v and v 2 corrections in the coupling constant and velocity of the he...

The Ground State Energy of Heavy Atoms: Relativistic Lowering of the Leading Energy Correction

Abstract. We describe atoms by a pseudo-relativistic model that has its origin in the work of Chandrasekhar. We prove that the leading energy correction for heavy atoms, the Scott correction, exists. It turns out to be lower than in the non-relativistic description of atoms. Our proof is valid up to and including the critical coupling constant. It is based on a renormalization of the energy who...
