ELECTROCHEMICAL STUDIES OF Cu(II) BINDING TO ALFALFA BIOMASS
نویسنده
چکیده
We have performed several studies to determine the electrochemical properties of Cu(II) binding by alfalfa biomass using carbon paste alfalfa-modified electrodes. Experimental conditions such as alfalfa-carbon paste concentrations, solution pH, and metal preconcentration times were determined. Results of the electro-chemical studies have shown that an increase in response was observed by increasing the concentration of alfalfa biomass with a maximum response at 30% (w/w). In addition, the response was found to escalate as the pH of the Cu(II) solutions were raised from 2-6, which parallels the trends observed from previously performed batch experiments. This information will aid in the elucidation of the mechanisms for metal ion binding by alfalfa biomass in order to develop a better method to clean heavy metal-contaminated waters.

Interference Studies for Multi- Metal Binding by Medicago Sativa (al- Falfa)
Previous studies have shown that alfalfa shoot biomass has the ability to bind a significant amount of various individual metals from aqueous solutions. Since most heavy metal-contaminated waters contain more than one heavy metal, it was necessary to determine the binding abilities of the alfalfa biomass with multi-metal solutions. Multi-metal binding capacity experiments resulted in the follow...

Poly-dopamine, inspired by biopolymers of mussels, is an adhesive catecholamine possessing low cytotoxicity and very good biocompatibility. In the present study, poly-dopamine nanoparticles (PDNP), as a biopolymer, were synthesized and characterized using FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical methods. The drop casted PDNPs at the surface of carbon paste electrode (...

A new Schiff base ligand (L) obtained by the condensation reaction of N-acetylaceto-otoluidineand 2-aminopropanoic acid (an amino acid), is used to synthesize four mononuclearcomplexes of [MLCl] and [ML2] types (where M = Cu(II) and Zn(II); L = Schiff base) bykeeping the metal and ligand ratio as 1:1 and 1:2 respectively. This ligand and its complexeshave been characterized on the basis of diff...
