The idea of a unified model for all astrophysical jets has been considered for quite some time. We present here a few scaling laws relevant to all type of astrophysical jets, analogous to those of Sams et al. (1996) which are widely used for astrophysical black holes. We use Buckingham's Π theorem of dimensional analysis to obtain a family of dimensional relations among the physical quantities ...

Self-similar solutions‎ ‎of the Riemann problem for two-dimensional systems of conservation‎ ‎laws

In this paper, a new approach is applied to study the self-similar solutions of 2×2 systems of nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws. A notion of characteristic directions is introduced and then used to construct local and smooth solutions of the associated Riemann problem

Gravitational clustering in a D-dimensional universe

We consider the problem of gravitational clustering in a D-dimensional expanding universe and derive scaling relations connecting the exact mean two-point correlation function with the linear mean correlation function, in the quasilinear and nonlinear regimes, using the standard paradigms of scale-invariant radial collapse and stable clustering. We show that the existence of scaling laws is a g...

Upscaling river biomass using dimensional analysis and hydrogeomorphic scaling

[1] We propose a methodology for upscaling biomass in a river using a combination of dimensional analysis and hydro-geomorphologic scaling laws. We first demonstrate the use of dimensional analysis for determining local scaling relationships between Nostoc biomass and hydrologic and geomorphic variables. We then combine these relationships with hydraulic geometry and streamflow scaling in order...

Controller Scaling Laws for Flexible Link Manipulators Characterized by Nondimensional Pi Groups

The nondimensional groups which characterize dynamically equivalent single exible link (SFL) ma-nipulators are determined using the Buckingham Pi method of dimensional analysis. Scaling laws for continuous-time and discrete-time linear rational controllers are developed for dynamically equivalent SFL systems. These theoretical scaling laws are veriied experimentally for a discrete PD control law.
