The salient features of CP-violating interactions in the standard elec-troweak theory and in a few of its popular extensions are discussed. Moreover a brief overview is given on the status and prospects of searches for CP non-conservation effects in low and high energy experiments.

Measurements of the rates for the hadronic decays B ± → πK along with the CP-averaged B ± → π ± π 0 branching ratio can be used to bound and extract the weak phase γ = arg(V * ub). Using preliminary CLEO data, we obtain the bounds |γ| > 93 • at 1σ, and |γ| > 71 • at 90% CL.
