چکیده

We present a brief description of the “consistent discretization” approach to classical and quantum general relativity. We exhibit a classical simple example to illustrate the approach and summarize current classical and quantum applications. We also discuss the implications for the construction of a well defined quantum theory and in particular how to construct a quantum continuum limit. 1.1 Consistent discretizations: the basic idea There has long been the hope that lattice methods could be used as a non-perturbative approach to quantum gravity. This is in part based on the fact that lattice methods have been quite successful in the treatment of quantum chromodynamics. However, one needs to recall that one of the appeals of lattice methods in QCD is that they are gauge invariant regularization methods. In the gravitational context this is not the case. As soon as one discretizes space-time one breaks the invariance under diffeomorphisms, the symmetry of most gravitational theories of interest. As such, lattice methods in the gravitational context face unique challenges. For instance, in the path integral context, since the lattices break some of the symmetries of the theory, this may complicate the use of the Fadeev–Popov technique. In the canonical approach if one discretizes the constraints and equations of motion, the resulting discrete equations are inconsistent: they cannot be solved simultaneously. A related problem is that the discretized constraints fail to close a constraint algebra. To address these problems we have proposed (Gambini & Pullin 2003b,

Discretisations, Constraints and Diffeomorphisms in Quantum Gravity

In this review we discuss the interplay between discretization, constraint implementation, and diffeomorphism symmetry in Loop Quantum Gravity and Spin Foam models. To this end we review the Consistent Discretizations approach, which is an application of the master constraint program to construct the physical Hilbert space of the canonical theory, as well as the Perfect Actions approach, which ...

Canonical quantum gravity and consistent discretizations

We review a recent proposal for the construction of a quantum theory of the gravitational field. The proposal is based on approximating the continuum theory by a discrete theory that has several attractive properties, among them, the fact that in its canonical formulation it is free of constraints. This allows to bypass many of the hard conceptual problems of traditional canonical quantum gravi...

A New Model Representation for Road Mapping in Emerging Sciences: A Case Study on Roadmap of Quantum Computing

One of the solutions for organizations to succeed in highly competitive markets is to move toward emerging sciences. These areas provide many opportunities, but, if organizations do not meet requirements of emerging sciences, they may fail and eventually, may enter a crisis. In this matter, one of the important requirements is to develop suitable roadmaps in variety fields such as strategic, ca...

M-estimators as GMM for Stable Laws Discretizations

This paper is devoted to "Some Discrete Distributions Generated by Standard Stable Densities" (in short, Discrete Stable Densities). The large-sample properties of M-estimators as obtained by the "Generalized Method of Moments" (GMM) are discussed for such distributions. Some corollaries are proposed. Moreover, using the respective results we demonstrate the large-sample pro...

Sheafifying Consistent Histories

Isham’s topos-theoretic perspective on the logic of the consistent-histories theory [34] is extended in two ways. First, the presheaves of consistent sets of history propositions in their corresponding topos originally proposed in [34] are endowed with a Vietoristype of topology and subsequently they are sheafified with respect to it. The category resulting from this sheafification procedure is...
