چکیده

Four groups of mice immunized with Sendai virus in different ways, namely convalescent (CT), intrapertoneally (IP) or intranasally (IN) immunized with the inactivated virus and non-immunized (NOI), were challenged and examined degree of immunity and body weight changes. Degree of immunity assessed based on the antibodies, the lung lesions and the lung viral titers was higher in order of CT, IP, IN and NOI. Body weight changes, expressed by both the decrease in mean body weights and the correlation coefficients between pre- and post-challenge, were less in the mice with higher immunity against Sendai virus.

Synergistic effect in viral-bacterial infection: combined infection of the murine respiratory tract with Sendai virus and Pasteurella pneumotropica.

Synergism was demonstrated between Sendai virus and Pasteurella pneumotropica in the respiratory tract of mice showing no evidence of previous infection with either agent. Mice aerosol challenged with P. pneumotropica invariably eliminated the viable organism from their lungs within 72 h. In contrast, intrapulmonary killing was delayed in animals previously infected with Sendai virus. Maximum s...

Augmentation of protective immune responses against viral infection by oral administration of schizophyllan

An oral administration of fungal polysaccharide schizophyllan has augmented protective immune responses to Sendai virus infection in mice and the rodshaped DNA virus of Penaeus japonicus (RV-PJ) infection in Kuruma shrimps. When schizophyllan was administered orally at a dose of 50 or 100 mg/kg body weight per day, the survival rates after virus challenge were significantly higher than those of...

Protective Immunity in Mice Following Immunization with the Cochleate-Based Subunit Influenza Vaccines

High morbidity and mortality of influenza virus infection makes it an important disease world-wide. Mouse is a very well-studied animal model for this disease with similar manifestation to human disease. It would be desirable to induce mucosal as well as circulating immune responses to obtain protection from infection and to decrease the spread of the virus. Cell mediated immunity (proliferativ...

Induction of Influenza-Specific Mucosal Immunity by an Attenuated Recombinant Sendai Virus

BACKGROUND Many pathogens initiate infection at the mucosal surfaces; therefore, induction of mucosal immune responses is a first level of defense against infection and is the most powerful means of protection. Although intramuscular injection is widely used for vaccination and is effective at inducing circulating antibodies, it is less effective at inducing mucosal antibodies. METHODOLOGY/PR...

Cell-mediated immunity to Sendai virus infection in mice.

The development of a cell-mediated immune response to Sendai virus infection in mice was examined by the use of a 51Cr release assay of cytotoxicity. A low level of "background cytotoxicity" to Sendai virus-infected L cells was found in the spleens of uninfected CBA mice. Spleen cells from Sendai-infected mice showed an elevated level of cytotoxicity against these target cells for a period of 5...
