Percutaneous Ethanol Lipiodol Injection Therapy versus Radiofrequency Ablation in Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma
نویسنده
چکیده
HCC cells are characterized by lipiodol deposition (an ethyl Ester of fatty acid of poppy seed containing 37-39% iodine by weight) and emulsification on cell surface, active uptake of lipiodol and prolonged intra-cellular retention for their life span [3]. For percutaneous ethanol lipiodol injection therapy the mixture of 99.5% ethanol and lipiodol at a ratio 10:1 was used with better results than ethanol alone [4]. Study outcomes

Successful treatment of large-size advanced hepatocellular carcinoma by transarterial chemoembolization followed by the combination therapy of percutaneous ethanol-lipiodol injection and radiofrequency ablation.
We report a case of large-size hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) successfully treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) followed by the combination therapy of percutaneous ethanol-lipiodol injection and radiofrequency ablation (PELI-RFA) and percutaneous ethanol-lipiodol injection (PELI) therapy. In the present case, the patient had a large-size advanced HCC, 7 cm in diameter, located in...

AIM To compare 5-year survival of patients with a single hepatocellular carcinoma≤3 cm randomly assigned to receive percutaneous ethanol injection or radiofrequency ablation. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 285 patients (192 males, mean age 70 years), with a single hepatocellular carcinoma (mean diameter 2.2 cm) were randomly assigned to receive percutaneous ethanol injection (n=143) or radio...
متن کاملTransarterial Chemoembolization Monotherapy and Radiofrequency Ablation or Ethanol Injection for HCC
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cancer in the world and the third most common cause of cancer-related death (Benson et al., 2009). Hepatic resection is still to get the possibility of cure for patients with HCC, but majority of patients diagnosed with HCC have loose surgery opportunity (Hsu et al., 2011). Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI...
متن کاملThoracoscopic ethanol injection and radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma located immediately under the diaphragm.
We previously reported that the combination therapy of percutaneous ethanol injection and radiofrequency ablation (PEI-RFA) was more effective than RFA alone in inducing wider coagulated necrosis for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, we thoracoscopically applied the combination therapy to the treatment of HCC located immediately under the diaphragm. RFA elec...
متن کاملLoco-regional treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Loco-regional treatments play a key role in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Image-guided tumor ablation is recommended in patients with early-stage HCC when surgical options are precluded. Radiofrequency ablation has shown superior anticancer effects and greater survival benefit with respect to the seminal percutaneous technique, ethanol injection, in meta-analyses of randomiz...
