Increasing the VoIP Capacity through MAP Overhead Reduction in the IEEE 802.16 OFDMa Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
One of the main issues with supporting VoIP service over 802.16 networks is the signalling overhead caused by the downlink MAP messages due to frequent transmissions and small packets. To decrease the MAP overhead, the 802.16 standard proposes some mechanisms, such as the compressed MAP and sub-MAPs. In this paper, we show by means of extensive dynamic simulations that sub-MAPs can reduce dramatically the signalling overhead associated with VoIP traffic and significantly improve overall VoIP capacity. At the same time, since subMAPs are more sensitive to packet drops, they tend to increase the number of HARQ retransmissions in downlink and transmission delays in the uplink direction.

Medium Access Cooperations for Improving VoIP Capacity over Hybrid 802.16/802.11 Cognitive Radio Networks
There are some existing works that study the coexistence of 802.16 and 802.11 networks. However, not many of them consider the resource allocation issues in the case of delivering traffic between mobile stations and Internet users through an access point (AP) and a base station (BS) which operate at the same frequency band. In this paper, we design a cooperation mechanism for 802.16 and 802.11 ...

The concept of scalability was introduced to the IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access (OFDMA) mode by the 802.16 Task Group e (TGe). A scalable physical layer enables standard-based solutions to deliver optimum performance in channel bandwidths ranging from 1.25 MHz to 20 MHz with fixed subcarrier spacing for both fixed and portable/mobile usage models, whil...

VoIP services have been considered as one of the most important services in the next generation wireless systems. VoIP service requires the same quality of service (QoS) requirement as constant bit rate services. For this reason, the IEEE 802.16 standard has defined an unsolicited grant service (UGS) to guarantee the QoS. However, the UGS is inadequate to support VoIP services with silence supp...
