Mycobacterium bovis antibiotic susceptibility test: a “new” liquid method
ثبت نشده
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Proportion method is the most widely used susceptibility test and is considered the reference method for M.tuberculosis (2). When adopted to slow growing strains, such as M. bovis, it couldn’t produce results on time. In addition, this method cannot be applied to pyrazinamidase activity test (PZAase test), which is used to differentiate between M. bovis and M. bovis subsp. caprae (1). The aim of this study was to evaluate the liquid VersaTREK (VT) pyrazinamide (PZA) susceptibility test as an alternative method able to rule out the major errors reported with others broth-based systems (3) and to check if the results obtained with the VT method support the use of a reduced incubation time (from 35 to 13 days). Same-Day Diagnostic and Surveillance Data for Tuberculosis via Whole-Genome Sequencing of Direct Respiratory Samples
Routine full characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is culture based, taking many weeks. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) can generate antibiotic susceptibility profiles to inform treatment, augmented with strain information for global surveillance; such data could be transformative if provided at or near the point of care. We demonstrate a low-cost method of DNA extraction directly from p...
متن کاملRapid antibiotic susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: its utility in resource poor settings.
PURPOSE To compare the rapid colorimetric nitrate reductase based antibiotic susceptibility (CONRAS) test performed on Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates with the conventional method i.e, the proportion method. METHODS One hundred clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis were tested for susceptibility to isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) by the conventional proportion method and CONRAS in Mid...
متن کاملEndogenous and Exogenous KdpF Peptide Increases Susceptibility of Mycobacterium bovis BCG to Nitrosative Stress and Reduces Intramacrophage Replication
Emerging antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria like Mycobacterium sp., poses a threat to human health and therefore calls for the development of novel antibacterial strategies. We have recently discovered that bacterial membrane peptides, such as KdpF, possess anti-virulence properties when overproduced in pathogenic bacterial species. Overproduction of the KdpF peptide in Mycobacterium ...
متن کاملIsolation, Molecular Identification And Genomic Pattern of Mycobacterium Bovis Isolates Collected From Tuberculin-Positive Cattle in Infected Farms of Shiraz
Background: Mycobacterium bovis is the main cause of tuberculosis in cattle. At the global scale and also in Iran, the most frequent currently-in-use method in the detection of infected cattle is tuberculination. Objective: The present study was aimed to improve our genomic knowledge of Mycobacterium bovis population structure in cattle farms of Shiraz. Materials and Methods: Fifty pathologic...
متن کاملGenetics of Tuberculosis in Irish Dairy Cattle
There is a lack of information on genetic parameters for tuberculosis (TB) susceptibility in dairy cattle. Mycobacterium bovis is the primary agent of tuberculosis in cattle. The objective of this study was to quantify the genetic variation present among Irish Holstein Friesian dairy cattle in their susceptibility to M. bovis infection. A total of 15,182 cow and 8,104 heifer single intradermal c...
