Active Interfaces for Useful Software Tools
نویسنده
چکیده
The majority of public domain software tools is endowed with programmer-oriented interfaces and, as a consequence, they are mainly devoted to "hackers" or specialized programmers. This paper concerns the development of an active interface used to make the utilization of a free software for ltering e-mail messages easy. A multi-agent implementation of an interface is proposed that from one side allows the user to easily specify his needs and from another actively reasons on the user's choices to improve the performance of the ltering process.

Active Interfaces through Software Agents
This paper concerns the development of an interface environment to help users in repetitive tasks in o ce work. The main ideas in the project concern: the development of active interfaces that autonomously perform tasks minimizing the interaction with the user; the use of the agent-oriented paradigm to provide both distributedness and incrementality of the software environment. The paper quickl...
متن کاملUnfriendly COTS Integration-Instrumentation and Interfaces for Improved Plugability
It is becoming increasingly desirable to incorporate Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) tools as software components into larger software systems. Due to their large user base, COTS tools tend to be cheap, reasonably reliable, and functionally powerful. Reusing them as components has the benefit of significantly reducing development cost and effort. Despite these advantages, developers encounter m...
متن کاملQUID : a quick user-interface design method using prototyping tools
Experience with prototyping tools for user interfaces indicates that just providing tools does not solve the problem of producing useful interfaces. Rapid prototyping is a design method for user interface development that emphasizes usability. However, it a bottom-up approach and thus in inherent conflict with more traditional software engineering techniques, which are top-down and specificatio...
متن کاملA case-study of affect measurement tools for physical user interface design
Designers of human-computer interfaces often overlook issues of affect. An example illustrating the importance of affective design is the frustration many of us feel when working with a poorly designed computing device. Redesigning such computing interfaces to induce more pleasant user emotional responses would improve the user’s health and productivity. Almost no research has been conducted to...
متن کاملAdapting Component-based User Interfaces at Runtime using Observers
Model-driven engineering (MDE) already plays a key role in Human-Computer Interaction for the automatic generation of end-user interfaces from their abstract and platform-independent specifications. Moreover, MDE techniques and tools are proving to be very useful for adapting at runtime the final user interfaces according to the current context properties: platform, user roles, component states...
