A Simplified Minque Procedure for the Estimation of Variance-covariance Components of Gps Observables

چکیده
Minimum Norm Quadratic Unbiased Estimation (MINQUE) is one of the commonly used methods for the estimation of variance-covariance components. The MINQUE procedure has been successfully used to estimate the variance-covariance components of GPS observations. However, the MINQUE procedure is a big computational burden, and the requirement of having an equal number of variancecovariance components in the estimation step is a major limitation. It is therefore difficult to implement this procedure when the number of observed satellites has changed during an observation period. In this paper, a simplified MINQUE procedure is proposed in which the computational load and time are significantly reduced. The quality of the results obtained is similar to those from the rigorous procedure. Furthermore, the effect of changing the number of satellites on the computations is effectively dealt with.

Least-Squares Variance Component Estimation: Theory and GPS Applications
Data processing in geodetic applications often relies on the least-squares method, for which one needs a proper stochastic model of the observables. Such a realistic covariance matrix allows one first to obtain the best (minimum variance) linear unbiased estimator of the unknown parameters; second, to determine a realistic precision description of the unknowns; and, third, along with the distri...
متن کاملImproving the Accuracy of Static GPS Positioning with a New Stochastic Modelling Procedure
For high precision static GPS positioning applications, carrier phase measurements have to be processed. It is well known that there are two important aspects to the optimal processing of GPS measurements: the definition of the functional model, and the associated stochastic model. These two models must be correctly defined in order to achieve high reliability in the positioning results. The fu...
متن کاملApplication of variance components estimation to calibrate geoid error models
The method of using Global Positioning System-leveling data to obtain orthometric heights has been well studied. A simple formulation for the weighted least squares problem has been presented in an earlier work. This formulation allows one directly employing the errors-in-variables models which completely descript the covariance matrices of the observables. However, an important question that w...
متن کاملFixing of Cycle Slips in Dual-Frequency GPS Phase Observables using Discrete Wavelet Transforms
The occurrence of cycle slips is a major limiting factor for achievement of sub-decimeter accuracy in positioning with GPS (Global Positioning System). In the past, several authors introduced a method based on different combinations of GPS data together with Kalman filter to solve the problem of the cycle slips. In this paper the same philosophy is used but with discrete wavelet transforms. For...
متن کاملNoise Characteristics in High Precision GPS Positioning
In this contribution we present the results of three different studies in which the method of least-squares variance component estimation (LS-VCE) was used to infer the stochastic properties of GPS data. The three studies cover the GPS geometry-free model, the GPS coordinate time series model, and the GPS zero-baseline model. In the GPS geometry-free model, LS-VCE is applied to assess the preci...
