Enumerating a subset of the integer points inside a Minkowski sum

چکیده
The relatively recent theory of sparse variable elimination exploits the structure of algebraic equations in order to relate it, on the one hand, to the bounds on the number of roots and, on the other, to the complexity of numerically approximating all of them. The model of sparsity is of combinatorial nature, which leads naturally to certain problems in convex geometry in general-dimensional euclidean spaces. This work addresses one such problem, namely the computation of a certain subset of integer points in the interior of integer convex polytopes. These polytopes are Minkowski sums, but avoiding their explicit construction is precisely one of the main features of the algorithm. Complexity bounds for our algorithm are derived under mild hypotheses, in terms of output-size and in terms of the sparsity parameters of the input system. A public domain implementation is described and its performance illustrated on certain families of inputs. Experiments are also used to connrm the asymptotic behaviour of practical complexity. Linear programming lies at the inner loop of the algorithm, which explains why the structure of the respective problems is analyzed and comparative experiments are conducted with diierent implementations.

Sum of Sets of Integer Points of Common-Normal Faces of Integer Polyhedra
We consider the Minkowski sum of subsets of integer lattice, each of which is a set of integer points of a face of an extended submodular [Kashiwabara–Takabatake, Discrete Appl. Math. 131 (2003) 433] integer polyhedron supported by a common positive vector. We show a sufficient condition for the sum to contain all the integer points of its convex hull and a sufficient condition for the sum to i...
متن کاملSpatial statistics for lattice points on the sphere I: Individual results
We study the spatial distribution of point sets on the sphere obtained from the representation of a large integer as a sum of three integer squares. We examine several statistics of these point sets, such as the electrostatic potential, Ripley's function, the variance of the number of points in random spherical caps, and the covering radius. Some of the results are conditional on t...
متن کاملConvexly Independent Subsets of the Minkowski Sum of Planar Point Sets
Let P and Q be finite sets of points in the plane. In this note we consider the largest cardinality of a subset of the Minkowski sum S ⊆ P ⊕ Q which consist of convexly independent points. We show that, if |P | = m and |Q| = n then |S| = O(m2/3n2/3 + m + n).
متن کاملMinkowski Length of 3D Lattice Polytopes
We study the Minkowski length L(P ) of a lattice polytope P , which is defined to be the largest number of non-trivial primitive segments whose Minkowski sum lies in P . The Minkowski length represents the largest possible number of factors in a factorization of polynomials with exponent vectors in P , and shows up in lower bounds for the minimum distance of toric codes. In this paper we give a...

Let G be a transitive permutation group on a set ? and let m be a positive integer. If no element of G moves any subset of ? by more than m points, then |? | [2mp I (p-1)] wherep is the least odd primedividing |G |. When the bound is attained, we show that | ? | = 2 p q ….. q where ? is a non-negative integer with 2 < p, r 1 and q is a prime satisfying p < q < 2p, ? = 0 or 1, I i n....
