چکیده

Background The polar coordinate system adapts best to the morphology of the heart. The recently developed sequences that allow the CMR Tagging in the circular and radial directions facilitate the calculation and presentation of the myocardium mechanics. Development of the corresponding processing methods is required to further enhance the utilization of these sequences. Here we suggest a processing method based on the harmonic phase approach to obtain the high-resolution motion in polar coordinate system.

Non-uniform polar tagging

Background CMR tagging in polar patterns is desirable because of its close compatibility to the annular geometry and motion of the left ventricle in short axis view. This circular symmetry does not exist in some pathological cases neither in the normal long axis view. An oval-shaped pattern is more suitable for assessment of the deformation in these conditions. Herein, we present the non-unifor...

Rotational motion of Left Ventricle by Harmonic Phase on radial tagging

Background The rotational motion of the Left Ventricle (LV) is a valuable measure in assessment of cardiac mechanics and can be estimated best through radial tagging. For practical quantitative application of this newly developed sequence, corresponding analyzing tools need to be developed. In this study, we presented a processing method based on peak-combination Harmonic Phase (HARP) approach ...

HARP Versus SinMod for measuring regional heart function from tagged CMR images

Background CMR tagging is a valuable technique for evaluating regional heart function. Currently, there are a number of different techniques for analyzing the tagged images, which are based on different analysis algorithms. The purpose of this study is to compare the harmonic phase (HARP) and sine-wave modeling (SinMod) tagging analysis techniques for evaluating myocardial strain and torsion in...

CMR tagging in the polar coordinate system

Introduction Strain of the myocardium is conventionally presented in the polar coordinate system since it adapts best to the morphology of the heart. Strain calculation would be facilitated considerably if the CMR tagging patterns were in the radial or circumferential direction. However, the CMR tagging is implemented mostly in the Cartesian coordinate system as it is prescribed by SPAMM techni...

Dietary habits of polar bears in Foxe Basin, Canada: possible evidence of a trophic regime shift mediated by a new top predator

Polar bear (Ursus maritimus) subpopulations in several areas with seasonal sea ice regimes have shown declines in body condition, reproductive rates, or abundance as a result of declining sea ice habitat. In the Foxe Basin region of Nunavut, Canada, the size of the polar bear subpopulation has remained largely stable over the past 20 years, despite concurrent declines in sea ice habitat. We use...
