Plantwide Fault Isolation Using Nonlinear Feedback Control

چکیده
Accurate detection and isolation of faults is a critical component of a reliable and efficient plantwide faulttolerant control system. In a recent work (Ohran et al. AIChE J. 2008, 54, 223), we demonstrated that using a nonlinear controller to enforce a specific structure in the closed-loop system allows data-based detection and isolation of certain faults that would otherwise not be isolable using data-based techniques that do not impose the necessary closed-loop system structure. In this work, it is demonstrated through a multiunit chemical process example how this approach can be applied in a plantwide setting. By using nonlinear, model-based control laws to decouple certain states from faults of interest, unique fault responses in the state trajectories are obtained in the closed-loop system. On the basis of the unique responses, fault isolation becomes possible using data-based statistical process monitoring methods. The effectiveness of the method was tested through an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study of 500 runs for each of four fault scenarios and through comparison with a conventional (proportional-integral) feedback control law.

Enhancing Data-based Fault Isolation Through Nonlinear Control
This work focuses on a broad class of nonlinear process systems subject to control actuator faults and disturbances and proposes a method for data-based fault detection and isolation that explicitly takes into account the design of the feedback control law. This method allows isolating specific faults in the closed-loop system; fault detection is done using a purely data-based approach and faul...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Control of a Nonlinear Process with Input Constraints
A Fault-Tolerant Control (FTC) methodology has been presented for nonlinear processes being imposed by control input constraints. The proposed methodology uses a combination of Feedback Linearization and Model Predictive Control (FLMPC) schemes. The resulting constraints in the transformed process will be dependent on the actual evolving states, making their incorporation in the de...

Abstract: In this paper, fault tolerant control (FTC) system is developed for lateral vehicle dynamics by combining static output feedback control and sliding mode observers for improving vehicle handling and stability under sensors faults. The system consists of three blocks: fault detection and isolation (FDI) block, a static output feedback controller block and a switcher block. The nonlinea...

Control actuators' faults are among the major reasons to lose aircraft control while flights. The plane dynamics is severely dependent upon faults and errors in flight control systems and if the reformed control order is not issued by the fault tolerant controller there would be unpleasant outcomes such as inconsistency and the reduction of system performance and some dreadful aerial accide...
