In structure they have an affinity with the tissues from which they take origin, consisting of cells, and an intercellular substance freely traversed by bloodvessels. But they differ from the simpler homologous growths?such, for example, as a fibrous tumour in that the development and increase of the cells predominate over the development of the intercellular substance, whilst the cells tend to assume distinct forms; and from the heterologous growths, the carcinomata, they differ in that there is a distinct formation of intercellular tissue, though of rudi-
