چکیده
This note adds one celebrated coalition formation game due to Gamson (1961) in the list of applications of the theory of hedonic games explored by Banerjee, Konishi and Somnez (2001) and Bogomolnaia and Jackson (2002). We apply their results to study the original Gamson game and o er extensions both to a multi-dimensional characteristics space and to an in nite number of players. JEL Classi cation Numbers: C71, D71, Z1.

Gamson's Law versus non-cooperative bargaining theory
We compare Gamson’s Law, a popular empirical model of legislative bargaining, with two non-cooperative bargaining models in three player divide the dollar games in which no player has enough votes to form a winning coalition on their own. Both of the game theoretic models better organize the comparative static data resulting from changes in nominal bargaining power than does Gamson’s Law. We al...
متن کاملIndividual and group stability in neutral restrictions of hedonic games
We consider a class of coalition formation games called hedonic games, i.e., games in which the utility of a player is completely determined by the coalition that the player belongs to. We first define the class of subset-additive hedonic games and show that they have the same representation power as the class of hedonic games. We then define a restriction of subset-additive hedonic games that ...
متن کاملHedonic coalition nets
In hedonic games, players have the opportunity to form coalitions, and have preferences over the coalitions they might join. Such games can be used to model a variety of settings ranging from multi-agent coordination to group formation in social networks. However, the practical application of hedonic games is hindered by the fact that the naive representation for such games is exponential in th...
متن کاملAltruistic Hedonic Games
Hedonic games are coalition formation games in which players have preferences over the coalitions they can join. All models of representing hedonic games studied so far are based upon selfish players only. Among the known ways of representing hedonic games compactly, we focus on friend-oriented hedonic games and propose a novel model for them that takes into account not only a player’s own pref...
متن کاملFractional hedonic games
An important issue in multi-agent systems is the exploitation of synergies via coalition formation. We initiate the formal study of fractional hedonic games. In fractional hedonic games, the utility of a player in a coalition structure is the average value he ascribes to the members of his coalition. Among other settings, this covers situations in which there are several types of agents and eac...
