STUBcast - efficient support for concurrency control in broadcast-based asymmetric communication environment

چکیده
Observing that it is impractical to use traditional methods to control concurrency in broadcast-based asymmetric communication environment, we introduce a concurrency control protocol designed for broadcast-based transaction processing called STUBcast (Server Timestamp and Update Broadcast Supported Concurrency). STUBcast supports two new correctness criteria proposed in this paper Single Serializability and Local Serializability. These criteria are weaker than global serializability but are practical and easier to achieve in broadcast environment. This article also shows some simulation results. These results suggest that STUBcast could be very efficient in realistic application environment. Keywordsdata broadcast, asymmetric communication, concurrency control, transaction processing.

متن کاملAn Efficient Indexing Method for Wireless Data Broadcast with Dynamic Updates
* Corresponding author, Email: [email protected] Abstract: Data broadcast based asymmetric communication is an appropriate model for many wireless and Internet applications. However, it is not energy efficient for wireless mobile equipments to use data broadcast if the receivers have to stay awake while waiting for a desired data item without knowing when it will appear on the air. For this...
متن کاملDesign of Optimistic Methods for Concurrency Control in Database Sharing Systems
Database Sharing refers to a local multiprocessor architecture where all processors share a common database at the disk level. Transaction systems running in such an environment intend to support high transaction rates with short response times as well as high availability and modular growth. In order to achieve these goals, Database Sharing (DB-sharing) requires an efficient syn chronization ...
متن کاملDynamic Allocation of Abundant Data Along Update Sub-Cycles To Support Update Transactions In Wireless Broadcasting
Supporting transactions processing over wireless broadcasting environment has attracted a considerable amount of research in a mobile computing system. To allow more than one conflicting transactions to be committed within the same broadcast cycle, the main broadcast cycle need to be decompose into a sub cycles. This decomposition contains both the original data to be broadcast in Rcast cycle a...
متن کاملAdaptive dissemination of data in time-critical asymmetric communication environments
The proliferation of new data-intensive applications in asymmetric communication environments has led to an increasing interest in the development of push-based techniques, in which the information is broadcast to a large population of clients in order to achieve the most efficient use of the limited server and communication resources. Nevertheless, none of the existing schemes integrates all t...
