چکیده
We have studied the low-energy excitation spectrum of a dimerized and frustrated antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain. We use an analytic approach, based on a description of the excitations as triplets above a strong-coupling singlet ground state. The quasiparticle spectrum is calculated by treating the excitations as a dilute Bose gas with infinite on-site repulsion. Additional singlet (S=0) and triplet (S=1) modes are found as two-particle bound states of the elementary triplets. We have also calculated the contributions of the elementary and collective excitations into the spin structure factor. Our results are in excellent agreement with exact diagonalizations and dimer series expansions data as long as the dimerization parameter δ is not too small (δ > 0.1), i.e. while the elementary triplets can be treated as localized objects. Elementary excitations in dimerized and frustrated Heisenberg chains
We present a detailed numerical analysis of the low-energy excitation spectrum of a frustrated and dimerized spin S51/2 Heisenberg chain. In particular, we show that in the commensurate spin-Peierls phase the ratio of the singlet and triplet excitation gap is a universal function which depends on the frustration parameter only. We identify the conditions for which a second elementary triplet br...

frustration: elementary quasiparticles and many-particle bound states. Abstract The excitation spectrum of the two-chain S = 1/2 Heisenberg spin ladder with additional second neighbor frustrating interactions is studied by a variety of techniques. A description, based on a mapping of the model onto a Bose gas of hard-core triplets is used to determine the one-and two-particle excitation spectra...
متن کاملDynamical transition from triplets to spinon excitations : A series expansion study of the J 1 - J 2 - d spin - 1 2 chain
We study the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with alternating nearest neighbor interactions J1(11d) and J1(1 2d) and a uniform second neighbor interaction J25y(12d) by series expansions around the limit of decoupled dimers (d51). By extrapolating to d50 and tuning y, we study the critical point separating the powerlaw and spontaneously dimerized phases of the spin-1/2 antiferromagnet. We then focus o...
متن کاملNovel approach to description of spin liquid phases in low-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets
We consider quantum spin systems with dimerization, which at strong coupling have singlet ground states. To account for strong correlations, the S"1 elementary excitations are described as dilute Bose gas with infinite on-site repulsion. This approach is applied to the two-layer Heisenberg antiferromagnet. Our analytic results for the triplet gap, the excitation spectrum and the location of the...
متن کاملOne-dimensional spin-liquid without magnon excitations
It is shown that a sufficiently strong four-spin interaction in the spin-1/2 spin ladder can cause dimerization. Such interaction can be generated either by phonons or (in the doped state) by the conventional Coulomb repulsion between the holes. The dimerized phases are thermodynamically undistinguishable from the Haldane phase, but have dramatically different correlation functions: the dynamic...
