The role of inner-shell excitations in electron recombination with complex multicharged ions

چکیده
We performed an overview of the inner shell excitation phenomena in the study of electron recombination with multiply charged complex ions such as Au (q=49-52) and Pb. It is found the the inner shell excitations play a significant role in the low energy electron recombination. Taking into account these inner shell excitations we have calculated the energy avaraged capture cross sections. The dielectronic rate coefficients are found to be in good agreement with the experiment. We show that the contribution from the inner-shell enhances the recombinmation rate by an order of magitude. We also made an attempt to identify the resonaces observed by the experiment in Au and Pb. A prediction is made for the rate enhancement in Au in which we found the configuration mixing between the doubly and the complex multiply excited states. Analyzing the statistics of eigenstate components we estimated the spreading width is about 0.85 a.u. which defines the energy range within which strong mixing takes place. Correlated double-electron capture with emission of a single photon
Double photoionization of an atom caused by the absorption of a single photon, the so-called double photoeffect, is a fundamental phenomenon, in which correlation effects play a crucial role. Since the photon interacts only with a single electron, the simultaneous ejection of two electrons is exclusively caused by the electron-electron interaction. So far experiments have been performed with he...
متن کاملQuantum chaos in multicharged ions and statistical approach to the calculation of electron-ion resonant radiative recombination
We show that the spectrum and eigenstates of open-shell multicharged atomic ions near the ionization threshold are chaotic, as a result of extremely high level densities of multiply excited electron states (103 eV−1 in Au24+) and strong configuration mixing. This complexity enables one to use statistical methods to analyse the system. We examine the dependence of the orbital occupation numbers ...
متن کاملThe cross sections for K-shell ionization by charged particle impact
The single ionization of inner-shell electrons by the impact of charged particles is one of the fundamental processes, which is being persistently investigated during last decades. In recent works [1-3], we have deduced the universal scaling laws for differential and total cross sections of the single K-shell ionization by electron and positron impact within the entire non-relativistic energy d...
متن کاملRole of Multistep Processes in Heavy-Ion Inner-Shell Excitations
This Letter discusses inner-shell excitation in collisions of very heavy ions (2, -2, 2 140) in the framework of the quasimolecular model. The importance of multistep excitations and of coupling between continuum states is demonstrated. The lso vacancy probabilities resulting from coupled-channels calculations exceed perturbation theory by a factor 3-5, thus giving good agreement with recent ex...
متن کاملElectron-ion recombination measurements of Fe, Fe, Fe motivated by active galactic nuclei x-ray absorption features
Recent spectroscopic models of active galactic nuclei have indicated that the recommended electron-ion recombination rate coefficients for iron ions with partially filled Mshells are incorrect in the temperature range where these ions form in photoionized plasmas. We have investigated this experimentally for Fe forming Fe, Fe forming Fe, and Fe forming Fe. The recombination rate coefficient was...
