Convection and Light Element Evolution from Pre{main Sequence to the Upper Asymptotic Giant Branch

چکیده
I examine diierent aspects of the physics of mixing in stars: convection model, mixing timescales, mixing at the convective borders (overshooting), and mixing linked to a \second parameter" (rotation and related magnetic elds), in several astrophysical contexts, going from dating of open clusters to lithium destruction and production in stars.

Angular momentum transport by internal gravity waves IV - Wave generation by surface convection zone, from the pre-main sequence to the early-AGB in intermediate mass stars
Context. This is the fourth in a series of papers that deal with angular momentum transport by internal gravity waves in stellar interiors. Aims. Here, we want to examine the potential role of waves in other evolutionary phases than the main sequence. Methods. We study the evolution of a 3 M⊙ Population I model from the pre-main sequence to the early-AGB phase and examine whether waves can lead...
متن کاملWhat can pre-solar grains tell us about AGB stars?
The vast majority of pre-solar grains recovered to date show the signature of an origin in asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. In AGB stars, the abundances of elements lighter than silicon and heavier than iron are largely affected by protonand neutron-capture processes, respectively, while the compositions of the elements in between also carry the signature of the initial composition of the s...
متن کاملNucleosynthesis in Low- and Intermediate-mass Stars: an Overview
An overview of the main phases of the evolution of lowand intermediatemass stars is presented, and the different types of nucleosynthesis operating from the pre-main sequence up to and including the asymptotic giant branch phase described. The surface abundance modifications brought by each nucleosynthesis process is also briefly discussed. To appear in: Tours Symposium on Nuclear Physics III, ...
متن کاملThe effects of thermohaline mixing on low-metallicity asymptotic giant branch stars
We examine the effects of thermohaline mixing on the composition of the envelopes of low-metallicity asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. We have evolved models of 1, 1.5 and 2M from the pre-main sequence to the end of the thermally pulsing asymptotic giant branch with thermohaline mixing applied throughout the simulations. In agreement with other authors, we find that thermohaline mixing subst...
متن کاملYields of AGB and SAGB models with chemistry of low- and high-metallicity globular clusters
We present yields from stars of mass in the range M ≤ M ≤ 8 M of metallicities Z = 3 × 10−4 and 8 × 10−3, thus encompassing the chemistry of lowand high-Z globular clusters. The yields are based on full evolutionary computations, following the evolution of the stars from the pre-main sequence through the asymptotic giant branch phase, until the external envelope
