Partha Datta has been working with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as Associate Head of Telecom Next Generation initiatives (telco cloud – Virtualization, Software Defined Networking, HetNet/SmallCells, Devices and Chipsets) with a focus on equipment vendors. With an experience of 15 years across leading telecom equipment vendors across the US and EMEA, Partha advocates a holistic view of the solutions, from business and technical prespectives, to enable value-added transformations leveraging next-generation technologies. Rajani Srivastava is a Lead Solutions Engineer in the Technology Business Unit at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). With an experience of around three years, Srivastava has been a key contributor to initiatives involving the ideation and implementation of SDN applications and solution accelerators. She has also contributed significantly to the Open Source community on the topic of SDN Controller, specifically OpenDayLight. Yogesh Pandey is an engineer for the telecom domain at TCS, focussing on SDN and virtualization. With an experience of over two years, he has been an avid contributor to implementing solution accelerators in next generation technologies. About the Authors Software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged as a new trend for dynamic and flexible network traffic optimization and shaping. SDN helps decouple the control and data plane, and provides a programmable interface to the network, reducing complexity and enabling network managers to holistically manage the network from a central location. As SDN continues to evolve, applications such as bandwidth calendaring, traffic re-engineering, and subscriber aware route optimization will come into play to enable effective network monetization. This paper presents an approach for flow optimization that factors in user demand for a better Quality of Experience (QoE). The SDN Controller helps meet this demand by configuring the network dynamically based on the type of application, user services, and traffic flow at runtime to achieve high performance. The proposed approach discusses prioritization of important flows leveraging monitoring tools like nDPI and sFlow; this will enable Over-the-top (OTT) players and network operators achieve better utilization and monetization through more adaptable and responsive control over network traffic. The paper also presents the next steps in enabling a more effective design by leveraging the SDN Controller Service Function Chaining (SFC) feature. Abstract Contents

متن کاملPrioritizing Resilience Enhancement Measures for Electric Distribution Networks Against Hurricanes
In recent years, climate change and increasing occurrence rate of high-impact rare (HR) natural events such as hurricanes have made it difficult to supply uninterrupted power to end-user customers. The extensive geographic area of electric distribution networks, as the last ring of the energy supply chain in power systems, has increased the vulnerability of these networks against natural events...
