چکیده

The objective of this paper is to show that saturation routing, ofien in the past considered inefficient, can in fact be a viable approach to use in many important applications and services over an ATM network This is demonstrated by showing that the ratio, de$ned as J of routing overhead cells over information cells is small even for large networkx f is calculated using typical network parameters, with analysis as well as simulation. An A4!D/1 queuing model is used to prove that the eflect of saturation routing in degrading network pe~ormance is insigrdjicant for the expected ATM network trafic. Also, the constraints on network parameters are derived and stated as: ~=C I, f< cI, and f< C(P A)/A; where p,, p, and A are the link utilization factor with saturation routing, the cell service rate, and the mean cell arrival rate, respectively.

M1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...

On Routing in ATM Networks

Alternative routing of calls has long been acknowledged as a means of increasing call throughput and robustness in the telephone network. Given these performance gains, it is natural to consider dynamic routing of Virtual Circuits (VCs) in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. Unlike telephone networks, VCs have heterogeneous bandwidth characteristics and Quality of Service requirements th...

Bandwidth Optimization through Dynamic Routing in ATM Networks: Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search Approach

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is widely used in telecommunications systems to send data, video and voice at a very high speed. In ATM network optimizing the bandwidth through dynamic routing is an important consideration. Previous research work shows that traditional optimization heuristics result in suboptimal solution. In this paper we have explored non-traditional optimization technique. ...

Limitation of the Source Routing Protocol in ATM-LANs using the LAN-Emulation

This paper deals with the so-called LAN-Emulation (LAN-E) as specified by the ATMForum, applying the Source Routing Protocol (SRP), which is well known from the Token Ring area. The LAN-E is one possible realisation for the integration of connectionless communication on Local Area Networks (LANs), into the connection oriented Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). The routing in those emulated or vi...

Design and analysis of a growable multicast ATM switch

This work designs and analyzes a cost-effective growable multicast asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch that has a new grouping network structure. The proposed switch can easily be enlarged by using more stages, since both cell routing and contention resolution are designed to distribute over switch elements. Experimental results indicate that, by allowing valid cells to enter grouping netwo...
