Towards the Optimum 7T Head RF Coil

چکیده
G. McKinnon, E. Boskamp GE Medical Systems, Waukesha, WI, United States Introduction Numerical simulations were used in an attempt to find the optimal configuration for a 7T head coil. The high-pass birdcage, the hybrid birdcage, and the TEM resonator were compared. The coil dimensions were kept as similar as possible. Performance was evaluated on the basis of normalized peak E field, SNR and B1 uniformity.

Improved B1+ field using a 16-channel Transmit Head Array and an 8-channel pTx System at 7T
INTRODUCTION At 7T, transmit coil arrays using parallel transmit (pTx) [1] systems enable techniques to substantially improve B1 transmit fields. Receive coil arrays offer enhanced sensitivity and parallel imaging performance. However, significant challenges in ultra high field systems are still remaining for the design and implementation of RFcoils for dedicated transmit channels and their int...
متن کاملA 7T 8 channel transmit-receive dipole array for head imaging: dipole element and coil evaluation
Target audience: Radiofrequency (RF) engineers, anyone interested in high field RF coils, parallel transmit or high field brain imaging. Introduction: Electric dipole antennas are seeing increasing use for 7T MR imaging. They differ from conventional surface coil loops in many ways. With 8 elements surrounding a body sized tissue equivalent phantom and array of dipole antennas can achieve highe...
متن کاملGain of Imaging Fidelity by Employing a Higher Number of Independent Transmit Channels Together with Slice-Selective Radio-Frequency (RF) Shimming at 7T
Dielectric resonance effects and radio-frequency (RF) power deposition have become challenging issues for magnetic resonance imaging at ultrahigh-field (UHF) strengths. The use of transmit (Tx) coil arrays with independently-driven RF sources using a parallel transmission system is a promising method for alleviating the resulting RF inhomogeneities. In this study, the effect on homogeneity and ...
متن کاملAssessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences
Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in quantitative studies in MRI imaging. Part of this non-homogeneity demonstrates the characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being imaged...
متن کاملB 1 shimming with a standard 2 channel headcoil at 7 T : possibilities & limitations
Purpose: To study the possibilities and limitations of RF phase and amplitude shimming with a standard 2 channel head coil at 7T. Introduction One of the main problems in high field MRI is the reduced SNR and loss in contrast due to inhomogeneous B1 RF transmit fields. Spatial homogeneity is of primary importance for diagnostic imaging. At 3T the homogeneity problem is mainly limited to regions...
