Paclitaxel and Carboplatin With Thoracic Radiation: Locally Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy have started to replace the traditional local approach of thoracic radiotherapy alone for unresectable stage III nonsmall-cell lung cancer. By itself, thoracic radiotherapy provides local control and effective palliation of symptoms, but has a minimal effect on survival.[1-3] Novel schemes of radiation such as hyperfractionated radiation[4] and continuous hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy[5,6] have been developed and tested. Saunders et al[6] demonstrated the superiority of the continuous hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy regimen (57.6 Gy in 36 fractions over 12 continuous days) over conventional radiotherapy in the treatment of patients with nonsmall-cell lung cancer, but at the expense of substantial esophagitis upon completion of treatment.

Aims: The backbone of treatment in advanced non-small cell lung cancer is platinum-based doublet chemotherapy. We intended to compare the effectiveness of two commonly used regimens in real world practice. Methods: This single institute, parallel comparative post marketing study included 100 patients with chemo-naïve advanced (stage IIIB, IV) non-small cell lung cancer and Eastern Cooperative O...

متن کاملPhase I study of concurrent real-time tumor-tracking thoracic radiation therapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
INTRODUCTION Although paclitaxel with carboplatin and thoracic radiotherapy has improved survival for patients with locally advanced unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the optimal dose of paclitaxel has not been well defined in Japan. This study was conducted to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and recommended dose (RD) of paclitaxel in combination with carboplatin and c...
متن کاملPhase I/II study of weekly paclitaxel and carboplatin with concurrent radiation therapy in locally advanced non- small-cell lung cancer: Kansai Clinical Oncology Group T0401
Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is effective in patients with unresectable stage III locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Weekly carboplatin and paclitaxel is a common CCRT regimen, but with variable results. Phase I of this study evaluated the recommended paclitaxel dosage. Phase II assessed response rates, progression-free survival, overall survival and adverse...
