چکیده

We report the experimental studies of the vibrational spectra of SrTiO3 films with the thickness of 1 μm grown by pulsed laser deposition. Fourier-transform infrared ellipsometry between 30 and 700 cm and electric field-induced Raman scattering techniques have been utilized for investigation of the phonon behavior. These results can be used for comparison with the low-frequency measurements of the static dielectric constant. The soft mode in the films reveals hardening compared to that in bulk crystals. This observation is in agreement with the Lyddane-Sachs-Teller formalism.

Terahertz ellipsometry study of the soft mode behavior in ultrathin SrTiO3 films

We present a combined study with time-domain terahertz and conventional far-infrared ellipsometry of the temperature dependent optical response of SrTiO3 thin films (82 and 8.5 nm) that are grown by pulsed-laser deposition on (La0.3Sr0.7)(Al0.65Ta0.35)O3 (LSAT) substrates. We demonstrate that terahertz ellipsometry is very sensitive to the optical response of these thin films, in particular, to...

Observation of the First-Order Raman Scattering in SrTiO3 Thin Films

We have studied lattice dynamic properties of SrTiO3 thin films from 5 to 300 K using metaloxide bilayer Raman scattering. First-order zone-center optical phonons, symmetry forbidden in single crystals, have been observed in the thin films, indicating strain-induced lowering of symmetry. The asymmetric line shape of the TO2 phonon is interpreted as evidence for micropolar regions in the thin fi...

Electric-field-induced soft-mode hardening in SrTiO3 films

We have studied electric-field-induced Raman scattering in SrTiO3 thin films using an indium-tin-oxide/SrTiO3/SrRuO3 structure grown by pulsed laser deposition. The soft mode polarized along the field becomes Raman active. Experimental data for electric-field-induced hardening of the soft modes and the tuning of the static dielectric constant are in agreement described by the Lyddane-Sachs-Tell...

Origin of soft-mode stiffening and reduced dielectric response in SrTiO3 thin films

The problem of the reduced dielectric response in thin films of high-permittivity materials is analyzed by studying the soft-mode response in several SrTiO3 thin films by means of Fourier transform far infrared, monochromatic submillimeter, and micro-Raman spectroscopies. A 300-nm-thick metalorganic chemical vapor deposition film, quasiepitaxially grown on a ~0001! sapphire substrate with a per...

Raman Spectroscopy of Ferroelectric Thin Films and Superlattices

Recent results of Raman spectroscopy studies of lattice dynamics and phase transitions in ferroelectric thin films and superlattices are reviewed. Raman studies of SrTiO3, BaTiO3, and BaxSr1−xTiO3 thin films in comparison to corresponding single crystals are presented; essential differences in the lattice dynamics behavior of thin films and single crystals are discussed. Application of ultravio...
