چکیده

In this paper the framework for a multimedia platform called ADRI is described which aids in playing the piano. A 3Dpiano with visualisation of notes was built in a virtual environment and connected with a real synthesizer using Midi to interact with a user. Multiple users can play together on the virtual piano in this 3D environment from different locations. Multiple agents were made, each with its own independent functionality within the multi-agent platform. Using this system an artificial piano teacher can be developed further to give the environment more educational value and to aid a real piano teacher with his lessons. The environment can also be used as an administrative tool or knowledge base with lessons, songs or other information needed for piano playing. Analysis of Piano Playing Movements Spanning Multiple Touches

Awareness of playing movements can help a piano student to improve technique. We are developing a piano pedagogy application that uses sensor data of hand and arm movement and generates feedback to increase movement awareness. This paper reports on a method for analysis of piano playing movements. The method allows to judge whether an active movement in a joint has occurred during a given time ...

Mapping strategies and sound engine design for an augmented hybrid piano

Based on a combination of novel mapping techniques and carefully designed sound engines, I present an augmented hybrid piano specifically designed for improvisation. The mapping technique, originally developed for other control interfaces but here adapted to the piano keyboard, is based on a dynamic vectorization of control parameters, allowing both wild sonic exploration and minute intimate ex...

Conjuring the Recorded Pianist: A New Medium to Experience Musical Performance

The body channels rich layers of information when playing music, from intricate manipulations of the instrument to vivid personifications of expression. But when music is captured and replayed across distance and time, the performer’s body is too often trapped behind a small screen or absent entirely. This paper introduces MirrorFugue III, an interface to experience recorded piano performance t...

Tactile Teacher: Toward Sensing Taps When Playing Piano

In a piano lesson, a student often imitates how her teacher is playing in terms of speed, dynamics, and fingering. We seek to convey the touch sensations in piano lessons between a teacher and a student by sensing the teacher's keystrokes and then tapping the student's fingers appropriately. Here, we propose an implementation to sense finger taps on hard surfaces by using an instrumented glove....

Effects of short-term piano training on measures of finger tapping, somatosensory perception and motor-related brain activity in patients with cerebral palsy

Playing a musical instrument demands the integration of sensory and perceptual information with motor processes in order to produce a harmonic musical piece. The diversity of brain mechanisms involved and the joyful character of playing an instrument make musical instrument training a potential vehicle for neurorehabilitation of motor skills in patients with cerebral palsy (CP). This clinical c...
