چکیده

This paper discusses how to make a distributed object system flexible so as to satisfy applications’ requirements in change of the system environment. The system change is modeled to be the change of not only types of service but also quality of service (QoS) supported by the objects. There are two types of methods changing the objects, one for manipulating the states of the objects and another for changing QoS of the objects. We discuss new relations among methods with respect to QoS. By using the QoS-based relations, we newly discuss a QoS-based compensating way to recover the object from the less qualified state.

A Flexible and Adaptive Transport System Architecture to Support Lightweight Protocols for Multimedia Applications on High-Performance Networks

Transport systems integrate operating system services such as memory and process management together with communication protocols that utilize these OS services to support distributed applications running on local and wide area networks. Existing transport systems do not customize their services to meet the quality-of-service requirements of distributed applications. This often forces developer...

Object Invocation and Management in Distributed Multimedia Systems

Future object management systems will need to provide support for a new class of applications: distributed multimedia design environments. Such environments pose new challenges for object management systems, requiring the integration of object-oriented techniques, distributed systems and multimedia technologies. To meet these challenges a flexible approach to object management is required. We d...

A distributed object platform infrastructure for multimedia applications

Although distributed object computing has developed rapidly over the past decade, and is now becoming commercially important, there remain key application areas inadequately supported by current standards and implementations. This paper describes research aimed at support for one of these areas: distributed soft real-time/ multimedia applications. The approach is to provide a low level platform...

Multimedia Services based on Agents

Distributed systems tend to be heterogeneous, especially when they are not under the same administration. Distributed multimedia services need a widely spread distribution to be of interest to a user. Only if the multimedia services are accessible everywhere in any environment they will be acceptable. To cover heterogeneity and flexible service deployment mobile agents can be used. They configu...

An Architecture for Streaming Control in Distributed Multimedia Systems

The development of distributed multimedia systems can benefit from the availability of a flexible infrastructure able to support the interoperation between components, and capable of dynamically adapt itself to the system configuration. CORBAcompliant distributed multimedia applications permit a high level of accessibility, decentralization and interoperability with other components. However, a...

Reliability and fault-tolerance issues in distributed VoD systems

This work presents a simulation-based tool for designing fault-tolerat Video on Demand (VoD) applications. The architecture of the tool relies on a two layer structure, namely the application level and the network level. The former contains a variety of objects to rapidly model fundamental components typically found in most distributed multimedia systems for VoD applications. The latter provide...
