چکیده

It was conjectured that for each simple graph G = (V , E) with n = |V (G)| vertices and m = |E(G)| edges, it holdsM2(G)/m ≥ M1(G)/n, whereM1 andM2 are the first and second Zagreb indices. Hansen and Vukičević proved that it is true for all chemical graphs and does not hold in general. Also the conjecture was proved for all trees, unicyclic graphs, and all bicyclic graphs except one class. In this paper, we show that for every positive integer k, there exists a connected graph such that m − n = k and the conjecture does not hold. Moreover, by introducing some transformations, we show that M2/(m − 1) > M1/n for all bicyclic graphs and it does not hold for general graphs. Using these transformations we give new and shorter proofs of some known results. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Zagreb, multiplicative Zagreb Indices and Coindices of ‎graphs

‎Let G=(V,E) be a simple connected graph with vertex set V and edge set E. The first, second and third Zagreb indices of G are respectivly defined by: $M_1(G)=sum_{uin V} d(u)^2, hspace {.1 cm} M_2(G)=sum_{uvin E} d(u).d(v)$ and $ M_3(G)=sum_{uvin E}| d(u)-d(v)| $ , where d(u) is the degree of vertex u in G and uv is an edge of G connecting the vertices u and v. Recently, the first and second m...

On Comparing Zagreb Indices of Graphs

For a (molecular) graph, the first Zagreb index M1 is equal to the sum of the squares of the degrees of the vertices, and the second Zagreb index M2 is equal to the sum of the products of the degrees of pairs of adjacent vertices. It is well known that for connected or disconnected graphs with n vertices and m edges, the inequality M2/m ≥ M1/n does not always hold. Here we show that this relati...

On the Maximum Zagreb Indices of Graphs with k Cut Vertices

For a (molecular) graph, the first Zagreb index M1 is equal to the sum of squares of the vertex degrees, and the second Zagreb index M2 is equal to the sum of products of degrees of pairs of adjacent vertices. In this paper, we study the Zagreb indices of n-vertex connected graphs with k cut vertices, the upper bound for M1and M2-values of n-vertex connected graphs with k cut vertices are deter...

On multiplicative Zagreb indices of graphs

Todeschini et al. have recently suggested to consider multiplicative variants of additive graph invariants, which applied to the Zagreb indices would lead to the multiplicative Zagreb indices of a graph G, denoted by ( ) 1  G and ( ) 2  G , under the name first and second multiplicative Zagreb index, respectively. These are define as     ( ) 2 1 ( ) ( ) v V G G G d v and ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) 2...

On the Zagreb Indices Equality

For a simple graph G with n vertices and m edges, the first Zagreb index and the second Zagreb index are defined as M1(G) = ∑ v∈V d(v) 2 and M2(G) = ∑ uv∈E d(u)d(v). In [34], it was shown that if a connected graph G has maximal degree 4, then G satisfies M1(G)/n = M2(G)/m (also known as the Zagreb indices equality) if and only if G is regular or biregular of class 1 (a biregular graph whose no ...
