Effect of Low Environmental Temperature, Dinitrophenol, or Sodium Fluoride on the Formation of Tumors in Mice*
نویسنده
چکیده
It has been demonstrated consistently that chronic caloric restriction inhibits the formation of various spontaneous and induced tumors of the mouse (1, 2). The mechanism of this effect is unknown. However some insight might derive if it were known whether the decreased caloric intake, the accompanying restriction in body weight, or the decreased total metabolism, was most directly related to the inhibition of tumor development. The present investigation was undertaken to acquire information relevant to this question by examining the effects on tumor formation of ex perimental procedures which would result in re tarded body growth, despite unchanged or aug mented caloric intake. Two of the procedures were the feeding of dinitrophenol and housing of the mice at low environmental temperature. The third procedure was the feeding of sodium fluoride, inas much as under suitable conditions it effects a sig nificant retardation in body weight without a parallel change in food consumption. In these experiments four types of tumors were utilized—spontaneous mammary carcinoma, in duced sarcoma, induced skin tumor, and primary lung adenoma. Only the spontaneous mammary carcinoma was investigated with all three experi mental procedures; the results have been reported previously (3).

متن کاملPositive effects of Vitamin C in arsenic trioxide and sodium fluoride induced genotoxicity and oxidative stress in mice in vivo
The aim of the present study was to evaluate Vitamin C (VC) as a potent natural antioxidant to mitigate the genotoxic effects of Arsenic trioxide and sodium fluoride in Swiss albino mice in vivo. The study was divided into eight groups consisting of control treated with normal saline (Group I), Group II, III, IV, V, VI, VII and the VC group with only Vitamin C (500 mg/kgbw). Arsenic trioxide (4...

متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF CRYOLITE NA3ALF6 AND SODIUM FLUORIDE NAF ON THE CORROSION AND WETTING BY MOLTEN AL-SI ALLOY OF ANDALUSITE BASED REFRACTORIES
In order to improve the corrosion resistance of aluminosilicate refractories by molten aluminum, alkaline fluoride NaF and cryolite Na3AlF6 powders were studied. Both physical and chemical properties are known to influence wetting and corrosion behavior. This paper devoted to determine the influence of alkaline fluoride and cryolite added to andalusite based castable on the reaction with a...
متن کاملThe Preventive Effect of Remin Pro and Neutral Sodium Fluoride on Erosion of Dental Enamel: An In Vitro Study
Background and Aim: Carbonated diet soda is the most common etiologic factor for dental erosion, and fluoride products have been proposed as an option for the preven-tion of that problem. This study evaluated the effect of Remin Pro and neutral sodium fluoride on the prevention of dental enamel erosion using profilometry. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted using an experimental-...
