Uranium Isotope Ratio Measurements with the NexION ICP-MS

چکیده

One of the beneficial features of inductively coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is its ability to measure multiple isotopes of the same element. This ability is useful in many analyses, primarily as confirmation of a correct answer (i.e. if two isotopes of the same element give the same result, the result is most likely correct) or the ability to select another analytical isotope, if an interference exists on the desired isotope.

Reduction of UH formation for U/U isotope ratio measurements at ultratrace level in double focusing sector field ICP-MS using D2O as solvent

The main factors affecting the accurate and precise determination of U using ICP-MS are instrumental background, the isobaric interference of UH molecular ion on U analyte ions, and the presence of U and U peak tails. An optimized analytical method for attenuating the influence of these factors on uranium isotope ratio measurements at ultratrace level of environmental samples has been developed...

Application of neodymium isotope ratio measurements for the origin assessment of uranium ore concentrates.

A novel procedure has been developed for the measurement of (143)Nd/(144)Nd isotope ratio in various uranium-bearing materials, such as uranium ores and ore concentrates (UOC) in order to evaluate the usefulness and applicability of variations of (143)Nd/(144)Nd isotope ratio for provenance assessment in nuclear forensics. Neodymium was separated and pre-concentrated by extraction chromatograph...

Isotopic analysis of uranium and plutonium using ICP-MS and estimation of burn-up of spent uranium in contaminated environmental samples{

Environmental monitoring of actinides and evaluation of the contamination source (nuclear weapons tests, nuclear power plant and nuclear reprocessing plant accidents, etc.) requires precise and accurate isotopic analysis of actinides, especially uranium and plutonium. Double-focusing sector-field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-SFMS) using a low-flow microconcentric nebulizer ...

Uranium in Urine: Quantification and Isotope Ratio Determination

While the quantification of uranium is therefore demanding in the diluted sample, uranium isotope ratio determination requires the ultimate in instrumental performance as good precisions for large isotope ratios are required at low concentrations. The abundances of the three naturally occurring U isotopes are shown in Table 1, together with the 234U/238U and 235U/238U ratios. The nuclear indust...

Urinary isotopic analysis in the UK Armed Forces: no evidence of depleted uranium absorption in combat and other personnel in Iraq.

OBJECTIVES To assess the distribution and risk factors of depleted uranium uptake in military personnel who had taken part in the invasion of Iraq in 2003. METHODS Sector field inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (SF-ICP-MS) was used to determine the uranium concentration and (238)U/(235)U isotopic ratio in spot urine samples. The authors collected urine samples from four groups iden...
