چکیده

Neuronal synchronization occurs when two or more neuronal events are coordinated across time. Local synchronization produces field potentials. Long-range synchronization between distant brain sites contributes to the electroencephalogram. Neuronal synchronization depends on synaptic (chemical/electrical), ephaptic, and extracellular interactions. For an expanded treatment of this topic see Jasper's Basic Mechanisms of the Epilepsies, Fourth Edition (Noebels JL, Avoli M, Rogawski MA, Olsen RW, Delgado-Escueta AV, eds) published by Oxford University Press (available on the National Library of Medicine Bookshelf [NCBI] at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books).

Role of tau protein on neocortical and hippocampal oscillatory patterns.

Tau is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein implicated in microtubules stabilization, axonal establishment and elongation during neuronal morphogenesis. Because of its elevated expression in neocortical regions and hippocampus, tau might play a role in sculpting collective neural responses underlying slow and fast brain oscillations and/or long-range synchronization patterns between hippoc...

A Mathematical Approach towards the Issue of Synchronization in Neocortical Neural Networks

When interaction among regularly spiking neurons is simulated, using measured cortical response profiles as experimental input, besides complex networkeffects dominated behavior, embedded periodic behavior is observed. This is the starting point for our theoretical analysis of possible emergence of synchronized neocortical neuronal firing, where we start from the model that complex behavior, as...

Neocortical Fast-Spiking interneurons: model, dynamical behaviour and synchronization properties

Neocortical inhibitory Fast-Spiking interneurons are interconnected by electrical synapses (gap-junctions) and control the spike discharge of pyramidal neurons. In this report, by using a biophysical model of a Fast-Spiking interneuron, the synchronization properties of a population of coupled model cells are investigated. In the case the cells interact only by inhibitory synapses, well defined...

Increased Entorhinal–Prefrontal Theta Synchronization Parallels Decreased Entorhinal–Hippocampal Theta Synchronization during Learning and Consolidation of Associative Memory

Memories are thought to be encoded as a distributed representation in the neocortex. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) has been shown to support the expression of memories that initially depend on the hippocampus (HPC), yet the mechanisms by which the HPC and mPFC access the distributed representations in the neocortex are unknown. By measuring phase synchronization of local field potential (...
