The action of the iliopsoas muscle in the newborn.

چکیده
The standard anatomical texts are unanimous that the primary action ofthe psoas muscle is flexion of the hip joint. At the same time it is usually credited with some secondary rotary action, although there is less agreement about the direction in which this rotation occurs. Basmajian (1958) reviewed the literature in relation to this long-standing controversy and found opinion to be almost equally divided as to whether the secondary action was one of medial or of lateral rotation at the hip. Most of the English texts favour medial rotation (Grant 1948, Gray 1949, Cunningham 1956, Last 1963). It is usually pointed out that although the posterior and medial location of the lesser trochanter might suggest that the pull of the muscle would result in lateral rotation, the axis of rotation of the femur passes through the head and the condyles of the bone and not along its long axis (Fig. 9) so that it lies medial to the insertion of the tendon. Shortening of the muscle must therefore give rise to medial rotation, although it is unlikely that such movement will be very powerful. Basmajian (1958) attempted to assess the functional role of the iliacus muscle by electromyography but he was

Histomorphologic study of the renal artery in post-natal life of sheep (Ovis aries)
The purpose of this study was to gain more information on the structure of different layers of renal arteryand comparing these structures in post-natal male and female sheep. To do so, right and left renal arteries of6 adult and 6 newborn animals were dissected; the middle parts of arteries were only collected. After tissueprocessing using paraffin embedding method, 5–6-μm sections were cut and...
متن کاملA new reduced mathematical model to simulate the action potential in end plate of skeletal muscle fibers
Usually mathematicians use Hodgkin-Huxley model or FitzHug-Nagumo model to simulate action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers. These models are electrically excitable, but skeletal muscle fibers are stimulated chemically. To investigate skeletal muscle fibers we use a model with six ordinary differential equations. This dynamical system is sensitive to initial value of some variables so it is...
متن کاملEffects of ionic parameters on behavior of a skeletal muscle fiber model
All living cells have a membrane which separates inside the cell from it's outside. There is a potential difference between inside and outside of the cell. This potential difference will change during an action potential. It is quite common to peruse action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers with the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Since Hodgkin and Huxley summarized some controlling currents like inwa...
متن کاملAn 81-year-old male with iliopsoas abscess by Streptococcus sanguis.
Iliopsoas muscle abscess is an uncommon condition, which has been growing in incidence. We describe a primary iliopsoas abscess by Streptococcus sanguis affecting an 81-year-old man cured by antibiotic therapy and aspiration procedure. The objective is to enhance the suspicion index about the iliopsoas abscess that may be mistaken for other causes of acute abdomen. The important diagnostic role...
متن کاملNeonatal Iliopsoas Abscess: The First Korean Case
Iliopsoas abscess (IPA) is rare in neonates. We present a case of neonatal IPA that was initially believed to bean inguinal hernia. A 20-day-old male infant was referred to our hospital for herniorrhaphy after a 2-day history of swelling and bluish discoloration of the left inguinal area and leg without limitation of motion. Abdominal and pelvic ultrasonography suggested a femoral hernia, but t...
