چکیده

The RapidEye system is a new generation of operational small-satellite constellations designed to meet the growing requirements for remotely sensed satellite imagery. Based on a constellation of five satellites, each carrying a 5-band 6.5 metre multi-spectral (MS) imager, the RapidEye system is capable of daily collection of over 4Mkm 2 with access to any point on the surface of the earth every day. This high-repeat, moderate-resolution capability makes RapidEye imagery ideally suited to satisfying multi-spectral and multi-temporal applications, for which geometric accuracy (including absolute accuracy, relative accuracy, multi-temporal registration, and band-to-band registration) is critical. To satisfy these requirements, the RapidEye constellation underwent a quantitative post-launch geometric calibration & validation campaign designed to accurately commission the cameras and to characterize the quality of imagery products. This paper describes the post-launch calibration techniques developed and used to characterize the payloads on all 5 RapidEye satellites. It both highlights the advances in calibration tools and techniques made over previous calibration campaigns and summarizes the results observed in the initial post-launch activities. 2. BACKGROUND

Assessment of RapidEye vegetation indices for estimation of leaf area index and biomass in corn and soybean crops

Leaf area index (LAI) and biomass are important indicators of crop development and the availability of this information during the growing season can support farmer decision making processes. This study demonstrates the applicability of RapidEye multi-spectral data for estimation of LAI and biomass of two crop types (corn and soybean) with different canopy structure, leaf structure and photosyn...

Radiometric Cross-Calibration of the Chilean Satellite FASat-C Using RapidEye and EO-1 Hyperion Data and a Simultaneous Nadir Overpass Approach

The absolute radiometric calibration of a satellite sensor is the critical factor that ensures the usefulness of the acquired data for quantitative applications on remote sensing. This work presents the results of the first cross-calibration of the sensor on board the Sistema Satelital de Observación de la Tierra (SSOT) Chilean satellite or Air Force Satellite FASat-C. RapidEye-MSI was chosen a...

Development of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) calibration model for estimation of oil content in a worldwide safflower germplasm collection

The development of NIRS calibration model as a rapid, precise, robust, and cost-effective method to estimate oil content in ground seeds of worldwide safflower germplasm collection grown under different agro-climatic conditions was the key objective of this research project. The oil content was measured by accelerated solvent extraction method in a total of 328 samples collected across 2004 (16...

Calibration and Validation of Prism Onboard Alos

This paper introduces the updated plans for sensor calibration and product validation of the Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping (PRISM), which is to fly on the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) satellite that will be launched this Japanese fiscal year. PRISM is used to derive digital elevation models (DEMs) with very high spatial resolution, which is also one of th...
