Non-linear Diffusion and Adsorption in Heterogeneous Systems by the Orthogonal Collocation Method
نویسنده
چکیده
Non-linear diffusion and adsorption problems in heterogeneous systems are investigated in this study. Highly non-linear functions are proposed and are found necessary for the adequate representation of concentrationdependent diffusion coefficients in many practical heterogeneous diffusion and adsorption systems. The nonlinear differential equation governing the diffusion and absorption process can be tackled by an orthogonal collocation method which proves to be an efficient and accurate alternative for simulating the transient solute movement in heterogeneous systems under various operating conditions.

Mathematical modeling of a fixed bed chromatographic reactor for Fischer Tropsch synthesis
In this research, Fischer Tropsch synthesis (FTS) has been modeled in the fixed bed chromatographic reactor for the first time by applying a rather complex dispersed plug flow model for fluid phase and linear driving force (LDF) model for adsorbent. Model equations are dynamic, multi-component, non-linear and heterogeneous including reaction and adsorption simultaneously Complex kinetics fo...
متن کاملNumerical Solutions of Two Point Boundary Value Problems Using Collocation Techniques
A comparative study of weighted residual methods has been made on different types of advection diffusion equations. Both the linear and non-linear models have been discretized by orthogonal collocation method (OCM) and orthogonal collocation on finite elements (OCFE). Model equations have been solved by MATLAB ‘ode15s’ system solver. Numerical values have been compared with analytic ones and in...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling of Gas Adsorption Processes in Packed Bed: The Role of Numerical Methods on Computation Time
Rigorous mathematical modeling of adsorption processes in packed beds involves time-consuming computations which are considered as the fundamental weakness of such thorough mathematical models. Thus, reducing the computation time was a key factor in improving adsorption mathematical models. In order to achieve this goal, an attempt was made to know how much using different numerical methods inf...
متن کاملFree in-plane vibration of heterogeneous nanoplates using Ritz method
In this paper, the Ritz method has been employed to analyze the free in-plane vibration of heterogeneous (non-uniform) rectangular nanoplates corresponding to Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory. The non-uniformity is taken into account using combinations of linear and quadratic forms in the thickness, material density and Young’s modulus. Two-dimensional boundary characteristic orthogonal pol...
متن کاملApproximate solution of system of nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations by using Bernstein collocation method
This paper presents a numerical matrix method based on Bernstein polynomials (BPs) for approximate the solution of a system of m-th order nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations under initial conditions. The approach is based on operational matrices of BPs. Using the collocation points, this approach reduces the systems of Volterra integro-differential equations associated with the giv...
