چکیده
Abstract – We present a model for characterising the behaviour of the buffer at a base station router when TCP flow control is used in combination with a link layer retransmission protocol over a cellular wireless link. We show how our model can be used to predict packet latency, optimally dimension the buffer, and tune TCP to ensure maximum utilisation of the link, for specific wireless channel conditions. Finally we verify the model with simulation results obtained using the NS-2 simulator.

TCP over IS-707
Mobile wireless Internet access services face a problem of mitigating the time-varying, correlated frame losses in fading radio channels. The losses may be compounded by detrimental interactions between separate error recovery mechanisms in the link and transport protocol layers. In this work we investigate by simulations the performance of TCP Reno over IS-707, a radio link protocol standard f...
متن کاملInteractions of TCP and Radio Link ARQ Protocol
Two distinct error and flow control schemes may be simultaneously involved in wireless Internet networks. One is an end-to-end transport protocol TCP which provides reliable packet delivery with flow and congestion control, and the other is a radio link ARQ protocol which provides radio link layer frame error recovery. In this paper, we investigate interactions between these two separate error ...
متن کاملPerformance of TCP over UMTS Common and Dedicated Channels
Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a third-generation cellular network that enables high-speed wireless Internet access. This paper investigates the performance of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) over UMTS utilizing a common and four dedicated transport channels with bit rates up to 2 Mb/s. The performance of TCP was examined under varying channel conditions. Bulk data tra...
متن کاملMore experiments with Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networking over AX.25 Networks
Previously the authors gave an overview of a Delay Tolerant Network Convergence Layer implementation that operates over Connected Mode AX.25, and detailed the results of some performance tests using it to transfer data over Amateur Radio channels. These results were compared to both a native AX.25 and a TCP/IPover-AX.25 implementation. The investigation of TCP/IP was undertaken because, while i...
متن کاملTCP Performance Degradation of In-Sequence Delivery in LTE Link Layer
LTE networks have been rapidly commercialized for 4G cellular communications systems in all over the world as well as Korea. Because many internet applications use TCP as their transport layer protocol, TCP throughput measurements and its performance improvements in LTE networks is very important. In this paper, we analyze the impact of “in-sequence delivery” in LTE link layer on TCP RTT increm...
