An Empirical Study of Recent Face Alignment Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
The problem of face alignment has been intensively studied in the past years. A large number of novel methods have been proposed and reported very good performance on benchmark dataset such as 300W. However, the differences in the experimental setting and evaluation metric, missing details in the description of the methods make it hard to reproduce the results reported and evaluate the relative merits. For instance, most recent face alignment methods are built on top of face detection but from different face detectors. In this paper, we carry out a rigorous evaluation of these methods by making the following contributions: 1) we proposes a new evaluation metric for face alignment on a set of images, i.e., area under error distribution curve within a threshold, AUCα, given the fact that the traditional evaluation measure (mean error) is very sensitive to big alignment error. 2) we extend the 300W database with more practical face detections to make fair comparison possible. 3) we carry out face alignment sensitivity analysis w.r.t. face detection, on both synthetic and real data, using both off-the-shelf and re-retrained models. 4) we study factors that are particularly important to achieve good performance and provide suggestions for practical applications. Most of the conclusions drawn from our comparative analysis cannot be inferred from the original publications.

Face Recognition using an Affine Sparse Coding approach
Sparse coding is an unsupervised method which learns a set of over-complete bases to represent data such as image and video. Sparse coding has increasing attraction for image classification applications in recent years. But in the cases where we have some similar images from different classes, such as face recognition applications, different images may be classified into the same class, and hen...
متن کاملFace Recognition in Thermal Images based on Sparse Classifier
Despite recent advances in face recognition systems, they suffer from serious problems because of the extensive types of changes in human face (changes like light, glasses, head tilt, different emotional modes). Each one of these factors can significantly reduce the face recognition accuracy. Several methods have been proposed by researchers to overcome these problems. Nonetheless, in recent ye...
متن کاملWhat Is Resilience and How Can It Be Nurtured? A Systematic Review of Empirical Literature on Organizational Resilience
Background Recent health system shocks such as the Ebola outbreak of 2014–2016 and the global financial crisis of 2008 have generated global health interest in the concept of resilience. The concept is however not new, and has been applied to other sectors for a longer period of time. We conducted a review of empirical literature from both the health and other sectors to synthesize evidence on ...
متن کاملAn Empirical Study on Relevant Aspects for Sketch Map Alignment
Sketch maps are drawn from memories and they are in general schematized and distorted. However, the schematizations and distortions are not random. They are a consequence during the cognitive process of perceiving, memorizing and producing spatial layout. This paper describes an empirical study to investigate the impact of distortions on similarity perception. The study is designed as a human-s...
