چکیده

Traditional performance optimization techniques have focused on nding the kernel in a program that is the most time consuming and attempting to optimize it. We introduce a methodology for measuring and representing the interaction, or coupling, between kernels that improves upon the accuracy of the traditional method. Then we demonstrate the beneets of using the new methodology by developing a new hybrid algorithm for the conjugate gradient application that results in fewer cache misses than the other algorithms studied.

Using Kernel Couplings to Predict Parallel Application Performance

Performance models provide significant insight into the performance relationships between an application and the system used for execution. The major obstacle to developing performance models is the lack of knowledge about the performance relationships between the different functions that compose an application. This paper addresses the issue by using a coupling parameter, which quantifies the ...

The Application of Hybrid RSM/ANN Methodology of an Iron-based Catalyst Performance in Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis

In this research, the performance and kinetics of an iron/manganese oxide catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor by Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis is studied. The range of operating conditions are; P = 1 – 12 bar, T = 513 - 553 K, H2/CO ratio = 1 - 2 and GHSV = 4200 – 7000 ((〖cm〗^3 (STP))/h/g_cat). The effect of these independent variables, on Fischer-Tropsch product were performed by using a statistical m...

Amorphous Silicon Flat Panel Imagers for Medical Application

A new gamma camera based on hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) pixel arrays to be used in nuclear medicine is introduced. Various performance characteristics of a-Si:H imagers are reviewed and compared with those of currently used equipment. An important component in the a-Si:H imager is the scintillator screen. A new approach for fabrication of high resolution CsI(Tl) scintillator layers,...

Predicting Customer-Expectation-Based Warranty Cost for Smaller-the- Better and Larger-the-Better Performance Characteristics

The quality loss function assumes a fixed target and only accounts for immediate issues within manufacturing facilities whereas warranty loss occurs during customer use. Based on the two independent variables, product performance and consumers’ expectation, a methodology to predict the probability of customer complaint is presented in this paper. The formulation presented will serve as a basic ...

Performance Coupling: Case Studies for Improving the Performance of Scientific Applications

Traditional performance optimization techniques have focused on nding the kernel in an application that is the most time consuming and attempting to optimize it. In this paper we focus on an optimization technique with a more global perspective of the application. In particular, we present a methodology for measuring the interaction, or coupling, between kernels within an application and descri...
