چکیده

In this paper, we present a novel no-reference (NR) method to assess the quality of JPEG-coded images using a sequential learning algorithm for growing and pruning radial basis function (GAP-RBF) network. The features for predicting the perceived image quality are extracted by considering key human visual sensitivity factors such as edge amplitude, edge length, background activity and background luminance. Image quality estimation involves computation of functional relationship between HVS features and subjective test scores. Here, the functional relationship is approximated using GAP-RBF network. The advantage of using sequential learning algorithm is its capability to learn new samples without affecting the past learning. Further, the sequential learning algorithm requires minimal memory and computational effort. Experimental results prove that the prediction of the trained GAP-RBF network does emulate the mean opinion score (MOS). The subjective test results of the proposed metric are compared with JPEG no-reference image quality index as well as full-reference structural similarity image quality index and it is observed to outperform both. r 2007 Elsevier B.V. GAP-RBF Based NR Image Quality Measurement for JPEG Coded Images

In this paper, we present a growing and pruning radial basis function based no-reference (NR) image quality model for JPEG-coded images. The quality of the images are estimated without referring to their original images. The features for predicting the perceived image quality are extracted by considering key human visual sensitivity factors such as edge amplitude, edge length, background activi...

A Machine Learning Approach to No-Reference Objective Video Quality Assessment for High Definition Resources

The video quality assessment must be adapted to the human visual system, which is why researchers have performed subjective viewing experiments in order to obtain the conditions of encoding of video systems to provide the best quality to the user. The objective of this study is to assess the video quality using image features extraction without using reference video. RMSE values and processing ...

No-Reference JPEG Image Quality Assessment Using Haar Wavelet Decomposition

This paper presents a novel method of no-reference image quality assessment for JPEG encoded images by means of multiresolution analysis using Haar wavelet decomposition. The proposed method takes advantage of the fact that JPEG encoded images are usually contaminated with blockiness artifacts. Blockiness artifact is modeled as a particular edge structure that transforms into a different edge s...

No-reference perceptual quality assessment of JPEG compressed images

Human observers can easily assess the quality of a distorted image without examining the original image as a reference. By contrast, designing objective No-Reference (NR) quality measurement algorithms is a very difficult task. Currently, NR quality assessment is feasible only when prior knowledge about the types of image distortion is available. This research aims to develop NR quality measure...

Blind Quality Assessment of Jpeg2000 Compressed Images Using Natural Scene Statistics

Measurement of image quality is crucial for many imageprocessing algorithms, such as acquisition, compression, restoration, enhancement and reproduction. Traditionally, researchers in image quality assessment have focused on equating image quality with similarity to a ‘reference’ or ‘perfect’ image. The field of blind, or no-reference, quality assessment, in which image quality is predicted wit...
