Total ionization cross section for electron-hydrogen scattering using a time-dependent close-coupling method.

چکیده
A time-dependent close-coupling method is combined with a time-independent distorted-wave method to calculate the electron ionization cross section for hydrogen. A second-order differencing of the time propagator for the close-coupled equations is found to be very efficient. Low partial-wave close-coupling results are added to high partial-wave distorted-wave results to yield total ionization cross sections in excellent agreement with experiment between 30and 50-eV incident electron energy. The distorted-wave method found most suitable for the high partial waves is based on a mixture of V and V scattering potentials. @S1050-2947~96!06309-3#

Fourier transform method of calculating total cross sections using the time-dependent close-coupling theory
The calculation of total integral cross sections for electron-impact ionization of atoms and atomic ions has, in the last 8 years, greatly benefited from the development of several nonperturbative methods, which generally show very good agreement with each other and with experiment. For the electron-impact ionization of hydrogen, the convergent close-coupling @1#, the hyperspherical close-coupl...
متن کاملTime-dependent close-coupling calculations of the triple-differential cross section for electron-impact ionization of hydrogen
The formulation of the time-dependent close-coupling method is extended to allow the calculation of electron-impact triple-differential cross sections for atoms. The fully quantal method is applied to the electronimpact ionization of hydrogen at an incident energy of 54.4 eV for various scattering geometries. The timedependent close-coupling results are found to be in very good agreement with t...
متن کاملT-matrix calculations for the electron-impact ionization of hydrogen in the Temkin-Poet model
An eigenchannel R-matrix expansion of the T matrix is used to calculate total integrated and ejected energy differential cross sections for the electron-impact ionization of hydrogen in the Temkin-Poet model. In previous close-coupling results, unphysical oscillations in the total ionization cross section could be averaged over due to the smooth dependence of the cross section on the incident e...
متن کاملTime-dependent close-coupling calculations for the electron-impact ionization of carbon and neon
A time-dependent close-coupling method is used to calculate the electron-impact ionization cross section for the outer 2p subshell of both carbon and neon atoms. The inner 1s and 2s subshells are treated using pseudopotentials, while interaction with the remaining 2p core electrons is handled in a configuration-average approximation. When the time-dependent ionization cross section for the 2p s...
متن کاملElectron-impact ionization of Li2 using a time-dependent close-coupling method
The time-dependent close-coupling method is applied to calculate the electron-impact ionization of a diatomic molecule with interior closed subshells. The ionization of the outer 2sσ subshell of Li2(1sσ 22pσ 22sσ 2) is carried out using a standard core orthogonalization method. At the peak of the Li2 cross section, the nonperturbative time-dependent close-coupling cross sections are found to be...
