Compiling propositional weighted bases

چکیده
In this paper, we investigate the extent to which knowledge compilation can be used to improve model checking and inference from propositional weighted bases. We first focus on the compilability issue for both problems, deriving mainly non-compilability results in the case preferences are subject to change. Then, we present a general notion of -normal weighted base that is parametrized by a tractable class for the clausal entailment problem. We show how every weighted base can be turned (“compiled”) into a query-equivalent -normal base whenever is a complete class for propositional logic. Both negative and positive results are presented. On the one hand, complexity results are identified, showing that the inference problem from a -normal weighted base is as difficult as in the general case, when the prime implicates, Horn cover or renamable Horn cover classes are targeted. On the other hand, we show that both the model checking and the (clausal) inference problem become tractable whenever -normal bases are considered. Moreover, we show that the set of all preferred models of a -normal weighted base can be computed in time polynomial in the output size, and as a consequence, model checking is also tractable for such bases. Finally, we sketch how our results can be used in model–based diagnosis in order to compute the most likely diagnoses of a system.

Logic-based approaches to information fusion
This survey covers recent contributions from the artificial intelligence research literature about logic-based information fusion. First, the main current approaches dealing with the standard propositional logic formalism are presented and compared. Then, techniques for fusing weighted belief bases are discussed. Finally, relationships between propositional information fusion and related areas ...
متن کاملComputing multiple c-revision using OCF knowledge base
Belief revision is the process of revising epistemic states in the light of new information. In this paper epistemic states are represented in the framework of Spohn’s Ordinal Conditional Functions (OCF). The input is a consistent set of propositional formulas issued from different and independent sources. We focus on the so-called multiple iterated belief crevision recently proposed by Kern-Is...
متن کاملOn the Compilation of Stratified Belief Bases under Linear and Possibilistic Logic Policies
Developing efficient approaches for reasoning under inconsistency is an important issue in many applications. Several methods have been proposed to compile, possibly inconsistent, weighted or stratified bases. This paper focuses on the well-known linear order and possibilistic logic strategies. It provides a way for compiling a stratified belief base in order to be able to process inference fro...
متن کاملCompiling Stratified Belief Bases
Many coherence-based approaches to inconsistency handling within propositional belief bases have been proposed so far. They consist in selecting one or several preferred consistent subbases of the given (usually inconsistent) stratified belief base (SBB), then using classical inference from some of the selected subbases. Unfortunately, deciding the corresponding inference relations is typically...
