چکیده

Mansoori, G.A., 1980. Molecular basis of activity coefficient (Isobaric-isothermal ensemble approach). Fluid Phase Equilibria, 4: 61-69. Through the application of isobaric-isothermal (NPT) ensemble theory, molecular relations for thermodynamic properties of mixtures are derived with pressure and temperature as the independent variables. Use of the NPT-ensemble approach has made it possible to derive exact molecular thermodynamic relations for activity coefficients of mixtures in the form of the Redlich-Kister power series. It has also become possible to examine the fundamental implications of some of the approximation correlations for the activity coefficient.

Rigid-body dynamics in the isothermal-isobaric ensemble: A test on the accuracy and computational efficiency

We have developed a time-reversible rigid-body (rRB) molecular dynamics algorithm in the isothermal-isobaric (NPT) ensemble. The algorithm is an extension of rigid-body dynamics [Matubayasi and Nakahara, J Chem Phys 1999, 110, 3291] to the NPT ensemble on the basis of non-Hamiltonian statistical mechanics [Martyna, G. J. et al., J Chem Phys 1994, 101, 4177]. A series of MD simulations of water ...

Pseudo-ensemble simulations and Gibbs–Duhem integrations for polymers

Pseudo-ensemble simulations and Gibbs–Duhem integrations are formulated within the framework of the expanded grand canonical ensemble. Pseudo-isobaric–isothermal simulations are proposed in which volume moves are replaced by fluctuations in the number of molecular segments. For large systems of dense athermal polymers, this pseudo-isobaric–isothermal method is shown to achieve mechanical equili...

Molecular Dynamics at Constant Pressure: Allowing the System to Control Volume Fluctuations via a "Shell" Particle

Since most experimental observations are performed at constant temperature and pressure, the isothermal-isobaric (NPT ) ensemble has been widely used in molecular simulations. Nevertheless, the NPT ensemble has only recently been placed on a rigorous foundation. The proper formulation of the NPT ensemble requires a “shell” particle to uniquely identify the volume of the system, thereby avoiding...

Free-energy Calculation of a Protein as a Function of Temperature and Pressure: Multibaric-multithermal Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Free-energy calculation is one of the main topics in thermodynamics. However, biomolecules such as proteins have complicated free energy surfaces with many local minima. Conventional molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations in physical ensembles, such as the canonical and isobaric-isothermal ensemble, tend to get trapped in these local-minimum states and cannot give the correct ...

Equilibrium and Transport Properties of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Amines by Molecular Simulation

Equilibrium and Transport Properties of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Amines by Molecular Simulation — Using molecular simulation techniques such as Monte-Carlo (MC) and molecular dynamics (MD), we present several simulation results of thermodynamic and transport properties for primary, secondary and tertiary amines. These calculations are based on a recently proposed force field for amines t...
